“Good hotel/motel value in a convenient location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2009

We stayed at the Clarion Historic District Hotel to attend a grand daughter's graduation from William and Mary College. Despite trepidation because of several bad reviews, we found the hotel to be clean and modern with nicely furnished rooms and a spacious lobby. The indoor swimming pool was well maintained and better than most at medium priced hotel/motels. It offered free internet despite the web site indication that there would be a charge. The location was very convenient to both the college and the Williamsburg Restoration. A bit too far to walk but no more than a 5 minute car ride. Reasonably close to Busch Gardens. All in all, a pleasant experience. Don't believe all the bad stuff you read.

I stayed at this hotel last weekend with my husband and daugther, and my in laws. We arrived and the hotel had a very musty smell when you walk in. We had requested a roll away bed, which was not in the room. After traveling a few hours, the first thing we did was go to the bathroom. The toilet would not flush and was leaking water on the floor through a crack in the base of the toilet. We had to move rooms because of it. We moved across the hall and that toilet flushed so slowly you wondered if it was going to flush at all. My mother in law's room was the same way and had to have maintenance come to unclog the toilet. The shower dripped when running bathwater and the plug for the drain was broken. The refrigerator did not keep things very cold. There were wires hanging from the ceiling in the hall where a smoke detector used to be. The pillows were like sleeping on giant cotton balls. I have been home 4 days and my shoulders and back are still sore. The carpet in the halls was very old and rippled in several areas, so much so that you almost tripped over them. The elevator was extremely slow. The housekeeping staff hung out in the office near the customer exit and were very loud and obnoxious. The pool water was so cloudy you could not see the bottom of the pool. The floors were filthy in the bathroom. My white socks were black after only a short time. I would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone.
