“A Pleasant Surprise in Williamsburg”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

Williamsburg has many, many hotels to serve visitors, and I've stayed in a fair number of them over the years. This year I took a chance on the Sleep Inn and was pleasantly surprised. My king room was clean, spacious and had a micro-fridge, which I always appreciate. The bed was firm and comfortable. Wifi was fast and strong. The flat screen TV carried enough channels to keep me entertained when I wasn't sleeping or working. Altogether, this was a very satisfying place to stay and at a very reasonable price.

This place could not have been worse. We came with a coupon, paid more than double+ advertised rate for a room. They advertised $39.99 rooms, at arrival they said, "we can't honor it on this date even though we advertised it"...THEN WHY ADVERTISE IT? FRAUD..first room they showed us was not great-dark and damp, we said yes because hotels were filling up and we were tired of looking. They changed the room at registration, the one they showed us wasn't cleaned. They sent us to another room. There was urine and pubic hair on the sheets, we asked for another room, they didn't have one and said they would change the sheets instead..they did, slowly. The electric outlet was blackened from a short, the carpet had holes, bare spots, pulled threads and patches,it was dirty and smelly. My skin crawled when we had to be in the room. NOT a clean fresh room for rest. When I responded to their email for review they telephoned me and refunded $20-30 on a $400 bill. They were impolite and short on the phone. DO NOT STAY here there are many other choices even if you go a bit farther from the center of town. Breakfast subpar. Place is worn out, management is delusional. Have gone to many Sleep Inns, this is the worst ever.

Room Tip: go to a newer more responsible hotel...these folks are charging the rates of cleaner newer or restor...

The off season price was excellent. We were given a handicap room which had a missing grill on the heat/AC unit and the warm button produced too much noise. The 24hr coffee was excellent. The accommodations were good. It is very convenient to Colonial Williamsburg. The Staff was great. It has a pool and exercise room which looked good.

I did stay for 6 nights, but: this hotel is in serious need of a lot of T.L.C. There are many things that could be improved upon.
I stayed for 6 nights because the room did not smell odd --in fact it did not have much of an odor at all --a real plus for any hotel of this level.
The carpet was torn and threadbare by the bathroom door (see picture). That is bad! The desk was not flush to the wall or the divider, and had scraps of wood (not shims) --actual scraps and what looked like sawdust and glue jammed into it, but I could see through to the floor --shoddy workmanship!
My main complaint is about the shower. There was plenty of water, but it was like a slow moving stream. Not adequate pressure for a person with long hair to wash and rinse properly. That water needs to come out of the shower head stronger and faster.
The bathroom ceiling outside the shower stall had the beginnings of mold spots growing on it.

Like I said, I stayed because the room did not smell funky, and the location was convenient.
I would not stay at this Sleep Inn (220 Bypass Road) again unless I previewed a room in advance. It's the off season -you all should be updated and repairing things!!

Room Tip: preview a room before you pay for anything

Stayed here in connection with a soccer tournament. Good exercise room, large, clean room and friendly staff. The room heat was turned super high when I arrived -- no word had arrived yet about global warming, apparently. Breakfast for dieters is subpar, but a restaurant at the edge of the parking lot offers more choices at its extensive buffet. Yogurt is full of corn syrup, coffee not so great. Weird eggs all shaped like hamburger patties without flavor... Good reading lights in bedroom. Shower needed those sticky strips to prevent slipping. Bed very comfortable. TV goes right to channels without those awful ads some hotels have or the hard sell to buy pay movies. Free coffee, tea or hot chocolate 24 hours, but no herbal tea.

Room Tip: First and second floors have the ice machines.

Stayed here forbade soccer tournament. They rooms were cheap so I didn't know what to expect. It is located behind Cracker Barrel so you can't see it from the road. It looks nice from the outside and checked in with a very friendly desk person. The rooms were very clean and it made me feel at ease. Nothing fancy but plenty of room in there. Nice sized shower. Breakfast was good. Loved the mini waffles! When you want to go somewhere there is a traffic signal so it makes it easy to get onto Bypass Road. Great hotel at a great price!

This is a well maintained, clean motel with an excellent price (at least in December). Our room was a little small mainly because the shower extends out into the room. Breakfast was average but the waffles were very good. It is nicely located half-way between historic Williamsburg and the outlet stores. The hallways and eating area are very clean. The building sits back about 100 yards from bypass road and it was very quiet at night. I can highly recommend this motel to anyone looking for a budget place in Williamsburg.
