Owner description: Historic Jamestowne is the original site of the first permanent English settlement in America. Ongoing archaeology at the site of James Fort has changed our understanding of the struggles and triumphs of early 1600s life in Virginia. Living history programs and an archaeology museum tell the story of this dramatic rediscovery. The site is jointly administered by the National Park Service and The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation on behalf of Preservation Virginia.

“Spent way more time than we had planned”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2014

This place was great! My wife and I stopped by for a quick hour visit, ended up staying around 4 hours total, and she doesn't even care that much for history! Staff were almost overly friendly they were so nice. We learned so much and everyone was very passionate about their jobs and teaching you all about them. Not necessarily the best for little kids as most of the activities are not hands on but more listening and learning. But for those who want to learn about Jamestown and even about Eagles (they have 4 nesting pairs on Jamestown Island) it is a great visit and well worth it.

“Every American citizen should visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2014

My daughter & I visited on a cold Feb. day and had Historic Jamestown nearly to ourselves. It made it all the more authentic. I wish we had taken the archeological tour instead of the movie to start out. We joined the tour a few minutes before it ended and the guide was passionate about his history and eloquent in his delivery. He escorted us thru the church to answer our questions.
It was moving to be in this hallowed place and realize all that Jamestown means to our country on every level. The archaeological work is incredible--having the finds displayed close to where they were found & displayed in a meaningful & informative way is wonderful. Take the time to go here and plan to stay a couple of hours to take it in. This is raw history in very meaningful, accessible, and user-friendly form.

“Great site”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2014 via mobile

This is a great site to learn about the early English settlement. The Visitor's Center is informational, including good relics. Do NOT miss the Voorhees Archaearium which contains more excavated artifacts and exhibits about Jamestowne. The building is located over the excavated remains of the last Statehouse in Jamestown, which visitors can see. It's beyond the fort itself, past the cafe. Terrific!

The river itself is lovely, as well.

“Big changes since last there.”

The last time we visited here was a very long time ago. Since then they have made significant additions and have come up with a very nice and informative attraction. Well worth the visit.
