“Perfect Blue Ridge Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2011

My wife and I have been returning to Fairlea Farm for sixteen years now. That's real information, right there. Over that time period, Susan and Walt Longyear have gone from friendly proprietors and hosts to family friends.

This B&B has four great characteristics. The first, as I have already mentioned, is the people. Susan and Walt are welcoming, friendly, and helpful. They are also very knowledgable about the area and its attractions.

Secondly, the location is ideal, at least for us. Fairlea is not on the main drag, such as it is, of Little Washington. The farm is just out of town, yet within easy walking distance. The view from the B&B is spectacular ... rolling fields stretching to the Blue Ridge in the distance. The property is beautifully kept, with flower beds in many locations. If you are so inclined, you can also make friends with the Longyears' donkeys in the side field!

The third feature is the rooms themselves. They are tastefully decorated and comfortable. They also have thoroughly modern bathrooms attached!

Lastly, Susan makes a wonderful morning feast for guests. The breakfast is always well balanced. You get several choices of fresh home made breads, fresh fruit and fruit compotes, a grain dish (like her yummy baked oatmeal) .... AND a dish with something eggy and something meaty. In the right season, you might get her homemade lamb sausages. Tempted enough? Well, if you're vegan you can skip that course. :-)

We look forward to our next visit.

Fairlea Farm is absolutely delightful. A country home with everything we wanted - a QUIET room with private bath, a beautiful setting with unobstructed views of mountain and farm greenery, and truly incredible home-cooked multi-serving breakfasts (thanks to Susan and Walt, who are extremely warm and inviting innkeepers). It is also very convenient - in the town of Washington, just off the main road (211). The only minor negative is that the traffic on 211 can be heard in the distance, but only from the outside and not within the house. The house is constructed so that you don't hear the other occupants - very quiet. Also, the room prices are very reasonable compared to other B&Bs/inns in the area. We'll definitely be back.

There is not much to add to the other glowing reviews, because they are well-stated and deserved. The house is charming, and the grounds are as well. The farm, the miniature donkeys, sheep and cows, and its setting in the mountains make for a relaxing environment. The owners are very friendly and willing to share their good information about the local area and the property itself. The location is excellent. Breakfast was very delicious, with small touches that are sure to delight.

Within an hour of arrival, one is completely transformed. Cares of life fall away. The setting is peaceful and beautiful. There is a spectacular view out of every window. The grounds and gardens are lovely. The love and care the Longyears put into every element of their common areas, rooms and grounds are something to see and experience. And the breakfast! None better. I actually picked up my fork one morning and paused for several moments unable to decide where to begin. And the Longyears are such gracious hosts.

The Longyears (host family) are wonderfully gracious. It is a beautiful house, with splendid antique furnishings, in a goregous location. The breakfast was an unbelievable feast -- one dish after another kept coming to the table, each more delicious than the one before. Could have sat at that bright dining room table all day! Truly memorable in the best kind of way.

Last week I had my first experience with a bed and breakfast hotel and it far exceeded my expectations.

The Fairlea Farm in Washington Virginia is one of the fines places that I have stayed in long time and certainly a peasant change from the traditional glass and chrome hotel rooms which we find everywhere.

The facility was beautiful and the owners could not have been more cordial and friendly, as well as being very failiar with the surrounding rea.

The breakfast, served truly family style, was superb including home made bread and biscuits which would have been enough to feed a large group.

I would recommend this establishment, without any hesitation to even the most critical traveler. My only fear is that they have set the bar very high and I hope that any other other B& B's that I might visit in the future will come up to their high standards.

Fairlea Farms is a great B&B. The surrounding farm offers incredible views and is very tranquil. We spent a few hours sitting in lounge chairs and drinking local wine. The farm is walking distance to the town of Washington, VA and is within driving distance to several restaurants and wineries.

Susan was a great host and offered an excellent breakfast.

We stayed in the suite, which is located downstairs and offers more privacy. My one complaint was that the bed squeaked. Besides that, the place was great.

Overall, the value was ok. As I said, the grounds are amazing and perfect for a romantic getaway; however, I would have preferred to pay slightly less.
