“Warm & Inviting B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2014

This is our second visit to this inn. On both occasions, we have had outstanding experiences. If you are looking for the perfect combination of a historic site with fairly modern conveniences in a most charming setting and inviting and restful environment, Grist Mill is the perfect place. The breakfast served in room is an experience. Everything is freshly brewed, baked and squeezed. Dinner at the on site Waterwheel Restaurant is a must. Both times when we dined there, the restaurant was overflowing with guests and outside patrons. We were fortunate to be assigned the same wait staff (Ashley) who immediately recognized us from our first visit; the service was superb. The Caesar salad is a must, yes it's really different and delicious. I had the local trout twice. Although prepared differently on each occasion, the result was equally spectacular. The owners spare no effort to make sure each guest have a wonderful time, and yet, you really don't feel suffocated, there is a nice balance between pampering and giving you ample space. There are lots of things to do in the area from soaking in the hot springs to tea time at the Homestead Resort 5 miles away. We plan to make this an annual trek as we have fallen in love with place, the people and the area.

We didn't stay overnight here (we were at The Homestead), but were looking for other options for dinner. This was recommended - and it was wonderful!! Food and service was perfect. It's small, so reservations are a must, but you can clearly see everything is meticulous. I had the rib eye which was perfect, the pasta is home made, the caesar salad is delicious. If we come back to this area, we will definitely stay here.

Stayed at the Inn at Gristmill Square to celebrate our anniversary. Very relaxing 24 hours! Stopped at the Jefferson Pools before heading over to the inn for check-in. Drove around a bit to check out the area and stopped at a couple local shops. Returned to the inn for a dip in the pool, cleaned up and headed across the street for a delicious dinner at the Waterwheel Restaurant. Loved that you could stop for a drink at the pub, have a couple drinks with dinner and then walk back to your room, no driving necessary. The inn grounds/area is well kept, quiet and everyone was very pleasant. The following morning breakfast was delivered to our room... a basket of goodies: coffee, juice, breakfast casserole, danish, yogurt and granola. All in all a very nice stay, plan to return.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Jennie Payne Room, which was large, bathroom is a little split up, but it is an old...

My husband and I ride motorcycles and the mountains of Virginia are beautiful. We discovered this wonderful destination by accident and it was a very pleasant accident. The ride up to the Inn was stunningly beautiful. The hospitality of the staff was exceptional. We had a beverage in the Simon Kenton Pub and had dinner in the Waterwheel Restaurant and it was all wonderful. My son and I explored the wine cellar and was sampled an appetizer before dinner. Fabulous!! The bartender and wait staff were all very friendly. I would whole-heartedly recommend the inn and its amenities to anyone looking for a weekend get-away. We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Rooms can be viewed on the website, we stayed in the Rye Suite and my son stayed in the Wheat Room...

My husband and I stayed at the Inn at Gristmill this past weekend, and we absolutely loved it! It was our anniversary getaway and we couldn't of picked a more perfect place. The staff was very wonderful. The breakfast brought to our room in the morning was very nice. Fresh warm baked bread, jam, orange juice, and coffee. We also ate at the Waterwheel restaurant both nights we were there, and it was one of the best restaurants I've ever been to before. We will be back for sure!

This was truly a wonderful experience from the first call to inquire and book through the pre arrival phone call with last minute questions and throughout check in and a wonderful two day stay. Every one we interacted with was friendly and helpful and pleasant to the individual. Accommodations were spacious and quite comfortable including the king sized bed in which we slept soundly. I loved the morning picket basket breakfast of fresh home cooked sweet rolls, juice, fruit and coffee delivered within minutes of a call to the main desk. This was without exception a superior Bed and Breakfast experience. The wife and I found so much to compliment about this experience that frankly we found ourselves talking about a possible return even though we were coming from quite a distance to VA for a family event and not expecting to return. Now we have a reason. . . to come back. Only disappointment was the inability to connect with our cell and internet carrier (at&t) and clearly that was a location issue not of the Inn's doing. We were told no problem if you are a Verizon customer. We loved the Inn at Gristmill Square and it is very likely you would also.

Room Tip: What a great place for a romantic get away or just a great stop over.

We spent two nights here with another couple. They rented the Barley Room and we had the Loft. Both were wonderful. Very comfortable and much more than we would have expected for the price. The staff was terrific. Basket of wonderful baked goods, coffee, fresh juice and fresh fruit delivered to our door for breakfast. What a wonderful touch. And dinner at the Waterwheel Restaurant was exceptional. We will definitely be back.
