“Whadda ya want? Egg in your beer?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

The Virginia Diner is a fine institution. I had the breakfast Buffet there recently, and it was fine. For the money, I was quite satisfied.. Nonetheless, it would have been excellent if they had had country ham on the buffet. Good free peanuts and decent service. What more do some of you want?

“Heard great things - but were not that impressed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

We went to the Virginia Diner for lunch. We'd heard great things about the good, southern cooking - but we were somewhat disappointed. The food was average, not great. The service was slow, and it was not that crowded when we got there, although it filled up as time went on. Food was plain, southern cooking - which was what we expected - but it was not that hot (pet peeve of mine), and I expected better, based on what I'd heard. We did not have the buffet, but ordered from the menu. Oh, well -- been there, done that. We did buy some famous peanuts on the way out!

We did not think we would find good food along Rt 460. Boy, w ere we wrong. Great lunch buffet. It was hard to stop with one plate of food. It was all excellent. Will stop for breakfast tomorrow on our way home.

“Good food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

Surprised by small biscuits! Food was good and hot- did not look like it did on Guy's DDD! It was good, but nothing you couldn't get at Cracker Barrel! We were told that we should have went there when the Old Man was alive! Looks like they are trying to cut costs on quality and quantity! The Dessert was great!

“Southern Cooking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

Always stop and eat here when traveling on Rt. 460. Country cooking with generous portions. Saw a couple of reviews from people not familiar with out Smithfield/Country Ham...it is very salty if you have not had it before..but oh so good. Employees are always very friendly and helpful. Great place to stop in for breakfast as well, lots of locals do. Love their biscuits...veggies cooked the country way and may seem overcooked to some..depends on where you grew up. Always enjoy their gift shop so allow some time for that and pickup a tin or two of their Virginia peanuts.
