We decided to stay an extra night in Virginia beach but had already checked out of our hotel. The lady at the front desk was very nice but told us the rate was 49 a night then tacked on a security deposit and we had to sign a waiver saying that if the room smelled like smoke or anythin was damaged we would be charged an extra 100 dollars.
The elevator was disturbing but we were psyched and a bit put off to see the chipped worn overlook. We were optimistic untilwe got to the room. It wreaked of aged urine and smoke so we called the front desk because she said, 'if anyone else is in the room, if it smells like smoke, or anything is missing' we would lose our deposit. Not willing tomtake the elevator back down we took the stairs and saw smashed electronics ie cell phone pieces, cigar wrappers, and glass.
At that point we asked kindly for a refund to which the lady said, 'we don't normally do refunds'. I responded, 'you will refund this one,' still in a kind voice. After it was all said and done a gentleman told her she could have just voided the transaction. It will be interesting to see what charges come through.
We also found out, by word of some locals that the owner was cited by health to replace his mattresses. He tried to 'donate' the contaminated mattresses to a local organization and was fined. Wow.
Just down the road; however, is a fantastically welcoming, CLEAN, and more affordable hotel ( we saved 17 bucks) called the breakers. They rock! Walk the couple blocks if you don't have a car. Breakers is better quality and cheaper than the best western ( not that them best western is bad at all) :0) hope this helps!
