“Nice location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2014 via mobile

We stayed there 2 nights at the end of june. Since hotel is new it was very clean. Location is one of the best in VB in my opinion. AC is noisy . Breakfast service was very bad and it was not organized. Food and beverage manager was struggling when the restaurant was full in the morning. Breakfast service definitely needs attention. May go back but will think twice before I pay that premium again!

Hi Ty_Toronto,

I just want to say we appreciate your feedback on our breakfast service and apologize for failing to meet your expectations. This will definitely be addressed with the staff. I will agree with your in our location being 2nd to none and I will look into that noisy AC. Thanks again for your comments and we look forward to seeing you again when you come back down to Virginia.

We stayed here 6 nights in July for a family vacation. Overall a great hotel. Staff are friendly and the facility is nicely designed. Rooms serve their purpose but are a bit spartan in furnishings. Easy access to the beach is a big plus, plus you get two free rental beach chairs if you ask the concierge for the voucher. The mini-fridge and microwave in the room is rather handy.

The only annoyance is the almost non-stop flogging of their "open house" for time share. Not just at the concierge desk, but all of the "Gold Key" reps that line Atlantic Avenue. The company also operates a number of restaurants in the area, which the concierge will direct you to pretty much exclusively if you ask for suggestions for dining. Which would be fine, if their restaurants were any good, but they aren't; they're terrible. Savvy travelers will check Trip Advisor for restaurant reviews before falling for the sales pitch.

We had suite on end which was very quiet and nice. Hotel is very clean and the staff accommodating. Nice location on the beach with great view. The hotel comps you with 2 sand chairs each day and they provide nice beach towels which is great since we flew here. I would recommend this hotel to others.

Pulled up to the facility on the first day and the valet wanted to move my car before I got my stuff out of it. He offered to help with our beach luggage, then decided he couldn't help because he had to move cars. There was no bellman at the hotel to help with bags (which doesn’t make sense for a beach hotel that looked so upscale and costs $300/night). The carts for carrying bags are awful and there aren’t enough. When leaving the hotel, there was a line just to get carts and there was no bellman to help people with their beach luggage. If there was a bellman, the valet never would have had an issue. Additionally, it was aggravating to park across the street. At the Hampton Inn we stayed at the past 2 years, we could simply park outside the hotel and leave all our beach stuff in the car and get it in the morning. That’s not possible at this hotel, so the bellman is essential! Food was very good at the restaurant, but inconsistent. Received a meal missing a key ingredient with no apology or means of making it right the first day. No price adjustment or replacement of the item. Food took an hour to come out at lunch time. Ordered the same thing the next day and it was not the same and it had to be sent back twice and was still not right. Server tried to make it right, but the kitchen was obviously not concerned. Never met a manager to discuss this on either day. The hotel room smelled of sewer gas. We asked maintenance to look into it once we figured out that it wasn't just one day. The smell got stronger during hours when people were using their bathrooms above us. They didn't entirely believe us when they went in during the day and didn't find the smell and so they gave us Febreeze and asked housekeeping to bleach the bathroom--that just compounded the smell. Housekeeping did a great job and it wasn't their fault. The engineer came the next day and I ran the water in the bathroom to get some of the smell to appear. He acknowledged that he could smell it which is when they wanted to compensate us for 1/2 night stay, but finally agreed to comp 1 full night. We stayed in that room for 5 nights and our clothes smelled of sewer gas when we got home. We were sickened every evening and morning compensated for 1 night. Once the problem was acknowledged, our entire stay should have been compensated based on that fact alone. It's a beautiful looking hotel. The pool is awesome and warm and the staff is really, really nice; but it just needs to shake the kinks of being new and management needs to see these things and make adjustments. It's unlikely that we will stay in this hotel again, though.

Valet, front desk, concierge all very friendly and helpful! Lobby, outside patio and sun deck areas were so invitingly perfect! The room was very nice size and comfortable and of course the view was amazing (loved watching the dolphins in the mornings).
Only negative was the AC, I don't understand why it is so loud. It woke us up several times so we ended up having to sleep with the temperature warmer than we would've liked.

We visited Virginia Beach on our way back from Washington DC. I researched many of the VB hotels and worried we would pay alot to get good quality. This hotel recently opened and is a beautiful, clean oceanfront hotel with lots of amenities. The outdoor pool is a plus since most in this area only have indoor pools. The beach is among the most beautiful and clean that we have ever seen. The boardwalk beckons you to the outdoors. While the staff seems to be getting a feel for the needs of the hotel, we were very pleased with it. (The fire alarm sounded one day which turned out to be a false alarm even though the fire department came in.) We did not visit the restaurant and did not order any food because we felt it to be quite expensive. With several restaurants and stores right across the street, we didn't feel we were missing out. Having said that, the trip to VB was exceptional by staying at this hotel.

Room Tip: Room on the sundeck would be a plus

Hi Carolynat645,

Thank you for coming up at staying with us. We surely do appreciate the kind comments and believe me i will definitely share with my staff. I apologize about the life safety device going off during your stay even though it was a false alarm. We would rather it go off than not at all, lets us know it is working. Please don't hesitate to call us when coming up again into the area. We look forward to your next visit.

The view at the Hilton Garden Inn is very nice. Every room faces the ocean, which is beautiful. The service was very disappointing for a Hilton. There were no luggage carts when we arrived and my 70 year old husband was told by a bellman to "go and wait by the elevator for one". He ended up lugging it to our room himself as no one offered to help carry it. The staff at the front desk are well trained in smiling and saying "I'm sorry", but they do not follow through on much. This is a "no smoking" property, but someone next to us was smoking and nothing was done. We had no chairs on the balcony and when they delivered them, the employee left our door ajar when he left. Victoria, who cleaned our room, was super. She was so pleasant and a very hard worker. You could tell that she really loved her job. The staff at the restaurant, Lager Heads, were very nice as well. Their food was just OK, but the food at Catch 31 in the Hilton up the street was excellent and plentiful. The A/C was extremely loud. We were told "satisfaction guaranteed" several times, but nothing was ever offered. We will probably look for a different hotel when we visit VB again.
