“It's a Time-Share! Beware!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2012

I am rating this property "very good" because it's an ocean front property, which makes the value high. But beware: this is a time-share property. They will be relentless and somewhat rude in their efforts to have you attend one of their "information sessions." They even called our room twice. When we finally said we were not interested, we received a snide comment from a very immature salesman.
Overall: the hotel is nice. Clean, ocean-front, and pretty. It's worth the money, and probably a little of your patience. For the money, it's a great option for VA Beach. It's nice to have your own kitchen, and makes up for the high-cost of ocean front accomodations. There is a Harris Teeter right down the street, making cooking at home easy while you're there. The pools (indoor and outdoor) are heated, so you can swing whenever. That alone is worth it for me! The beds aren't fantastic, but the space layout of the ocean-front queen accomodations are great, open, and sunny. What more can you ask of a beach spot?

I just returned from a stay at the Ocean Beach club Resort. There was some good and some bad. the location can't be beat. It's right on the boardwalk where all the action is. We enjoyed that. Check in took a while there were only 3 computers so at peak time it's going to take a while. The lobby is SMALL. I thought the rooms were small too. Everything looks a lot bigger in the pictures. Check in was smooth but the front desk clerk was not friendly. I have never checked into a hotel and been treated so dismissively. She never even told us our room number just handed us the keys. We stayed in a one bedroom suite. I found it clean and it had all the basic amenities. There were dishes, a few pans just the basics but enough should you want to cook. The living room was very small. when the couched opened to a bed it was impossible to access any of the other seating. The coffee table was heavy. You need someone strong to open up the sofa bed. The bathroom was very large and double sinks are a nice touch. There was a jacuzzi tub but it should be noted that the height of that would make bathing a small child problematic. Water pressure was solid! The queen size bed looked really small, we thought it was a double. The television in the bedroom was old and the only DVD in the unit was in the bedroom not the living room which seemed odd. The living room did have a really nice large flat screen TV. We used the indoor pool which was a lot of fun for the kids but it closes promptly at 10. There is not a lot of seating so you might want to bring your own beach chairs during peak swimming times. Of course we got the obligitary time offer but we were not interested and they didn't go overboard with trying to get us to attend a presentation. The elevators were slow. I was there during an off peak time, if you are there during the summer I would not expect to go anywhere quickly. All in all it was a nice clean place but for the cost not much of a value. I felt it was too small. A family of 4 for a week, it's just not enough space.

we did use trip advisor for recommendations and found mixed reviews but reserved anyway because our granddaughter was staying here for the cheer convention. and, our review is mixed as well. the hotel common areas are lovely as are the pools. the valet staff is very helpful and really hustles. despite the fact that i reserved very early with specific requests for oceanfront and frequent followup conversations, there was quite a mix-up at check-in. however, before check=in, an employee named lisa waller at the main office was wonderfully helpful. we went to see our room, which was awful, not only not even oceanview, but over the huge ac vents for the entire building and could almost touch the bldg next door. also, not well kept up. but, again with mixed reviews, when i returned to the front desk and assertively told the clerk on duty that the room was flatly unacceptable, they did immediately give us a much better room with oceanview, i reay appreciated them handing this problem with quick efficiency, the staff was helpful. the room, supposedly non-smoking, had a very distinctive odor of smoking. i think the upholstery and perhaps draperies need a redo. again, mixed reviews. i believe they are trying to become a "5" star resort and with more consistent management and more amenities, they may make it..

Stayed at this resort 2 times in the last 4 months.... the first time in a one bedroom unit facing the ocean, the unit is spacious enough for 5 adults, very convient to the broadwalk and the staff are very pleasant. The second time was during the Shamrock marathon weekend check in at around 12 midnight no issues, the 2 bedroom unit as requested facing the ocean, as expected enough space for 2 family (4 adults and 3 children). The only issue I have is no free internet access.... can't wait for Memorial day weekend.....

Room Tip: The second trip I called to let them know we are checking in late which was not an issue but I also...

I should have known we were in trouble when we had to wait for 30 min in line at checkin. The staff we not welcoming, they seemed bothered with the customers. We stayed in a oceanfront room that they say fits 2 people. It was very small, with a full size bed. There was dust everywhere. The room smelled old. We asked for towels and never got them. The only good thing was that the view was great. The pool was designed in an interesting way. The so called hot tub was just a cove that you stood in as it just blowed bubbles. The kids loved it, but very disappointing to me. Overall, I would rather stay somewhere else, but it was winter.

This resort is part of the Gold Key Resort Group. We traded in here for week using Interval International. We checked in on Sunday, March 18 for a week. The Shamrock Marathon was run 3/17 & 3/18 so many of the units were booked because of this. Our reservation from II said Club 1 and we were placed in a 3 rd floor corner unit facing onto Atlantic Avenue which means a city view. We were also right next to the new building which should be completed sometime this summer. Most of the construction noise has subsided and windows are in. We did have a day where they were breaking up concrete and it was noisy most of the day.

The parking garage is located across the street and you will be charged $7 per night. Bicycle parking is located in the first floor of the garage. You cannot take your bicycle to your room.

During our stay they have been swapping mattresses out. Not sure how much of the facility is being done but it has gone on for at least 3 days.

Nice indoor and outdoor pool area. I think this could get rather crowded in summer peak times.

Our unit was a 1 bedroom and the living room did have a sofa bed. The kitchen area is very small. All appliances are full size. It would have been nice to have 6 plates, etc. Many timeshares give you 1.5 of everything so if it is 4 you will get 6. Only items it would have been nice to have were a frying pan, collander and a rectangular baking dish. Not all pans had lids.

Pool towels are provided and bath towels are of good quality. Pictures shown online are true to what units look like.

Room Tip: If you are concerned about location, call before you book. Concierge said room unit types are set b...

We stayed there this past weekend for the Shamrock Marathon. The location is awesome and can't be beat. It is nice and clean, the staff is very friendly. We stayed in the Phase I building and I was pleasantly surprised that we could see the beach. I figured we'd end up with a city view but we faced south and could see the ocean. We were in a B side of the lock off. It was small, but fine for the two of us. We weren't planning to spend much time in the room anyway. The bed was a queen, which again was fine for us since that's what we have at home. If you're a larger person and/or used to a king bed, this could be a problem for you.

The main complaint I had was that the walls were pretty thin. My neighbors were by no means obnoxious, but I could hear their TV and given that I'm a light sleeper it was a bit of a problem for me.
