I took my mother on a short trip to Virginia Beach, which she'd always wanted to visit. We chose a Residence Inn so that we could cook our own meals. The ability to do this, combined with the overflowing free breakfast, makes this restaurant a great value. If you weren't going to cook and planned on eating out a lot, it may not be the best choice.

We were both new to the area, so the location seemed great to us but you may prefer something else. It was right near a large outdoor event space called Neptune Park (I think) and, for us, the best part was its proximity--just a couple of blocks--from Laskin, which provides easy access to 64 and 264 and so forth. This is helpful if you plan to drive around as we did, since getting in and out of Va Beach can be crowded.

The hotel was fabulously clean. Every staff person we met, from the housemaids to the front desk manager, was incredibly friendly and helpful.

If such things matter to you:
* Note that the kitchen did not have a sponge or dishsoap--they have dishwashers and dishwasher detergent instead, but we preferred to wash by hand.
* TV has lots of movies and cable choices, but TVs themselves are big old CRTs, so don't expect HD quality. Sad that I have to say that--it's all changed so fast, it seems.
* Breakfast offered an unbelievable amount of food, but the only vaguely healthy thing was yogurt. Be warned.
* This didn't bother us, but if you stay next to the elevator, you will be jingled to sleep by the sound of the lift arriving and departing--it's a pleasant noise but may make you think people are actually in your front room.

We had a great time and would absolutely go back.

We stayed for 3 nights in room #504. Wonderful staff and pleasant room with two exceptions - upon arrival noticed the cover on the end of one of the queen beds appeared to have blood on it. I took the cover to the front desk immediately. Did not need a replacement. Also the carpet had several bad stains. I know this room is for bringing your pets - I brought two small dogs who are house trained with me - so I know accidents could potentially happen - but I feel the carpet stains could have been cleaned. Other than those two things our stay and room were very nice. The staff, especially a gentlemen at the front desk named "Julius" was especially helpful, considerate, polite and very nice.

Great place to stay while visiting Va Beach. Rooms are all ocean front, staff at every level is very accomadating and they make your stay a real pleasure. Breakfast is included and a real bargain considering all the buffet items available to you. Will definitely want to stay at this hotel when visiting Va Beach in the future..... 5 Star bargain at these prices !!!

Good things - breakfast, evening appetizers, location, attractive rooms, very friendly staff.

Bad things - parking is a bit of a pain, but the valet service is great, and it isn't that hard to get the car yourself. Air conditioning exhausts onto balcony, which detracted from being able to use it.

Overall, though, it is a lovely place, at the quieter north end of the beach, and we could bring our dog.

This was our second stay at the Residence Inn...this time with our dogs in tow. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful...always greeting you as you walk by the front desk. Pet-friendly hotel!! Rooms are very clean and comfortable. Nice assortment of breakfast foods each morning. Hot coffee/tea available 24/7. Our only issues (nothing major) were that there were no sheets/blankets on the pull-out sofa when we got there and had to wait 2 nights to get a blanket because none were available and we didn't get clean towels in the room until after 5 pm one day. We do give the staff credit though, as soon as the clean towels arrived back at the hotel, they were delivered to our room and Julius at the front desk called up to make sure they had been delivered. Will definitely try to book here again for our next trip to the beach!
