“Quick overnight stay but awesome!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

We stayed here on our wedding night and although we only stayed for a few hours (came in late and had to leave early), everything was clean and most of all- everyone was so nice! Maybe it was we were so obviously coming from our wedding- but we definitely had a great stay!

This hotel is steps from the boardwalk on VA beach. The on site restaurant (Catch 31) --although I didn't eat there-- seems great with its outdoor fire pits, gathering spots, and ambiance (a bit over my budget and I was getting food at the conference I was attending). There are great rocking chairs on the terrace to enjoy, and the roof top bar and pools (indoor, outdoor infinity pool and hot tub) are beautiful with wonderful views, immaculately kept.

The room itself was average- not special but clean enough with a nice bed, linens, etc. This is a great place to stay if you want to be on the boardwalk! I was here for a conference and the spaces were very nice-- although the temperatures were terrible- freezing one minute and hot the next-- and that wasn't just me- everyone was complaining! That said, the food served at the conference (in case you are looking to book a venue) was a cut above your average conference food. The staff overall couldn't have been nicer or more helpful/welcoming.

There are not many great hotels on Va. Beach so we always stay here. They do a fine job. Great location. Food and drinks are VERY EXPENSIVE at this hotel. DO NOT GET AN ADJOINING ROOM. You will hear every word the people next door to you say. And the a/c units do not have a constant fan to drown out the noise. And my pet peeve with Hilton...their trash cans are so slim, you can not even get a coffee cup in them, so you end up piling your trash next to the can.

Just returned today from 1 week stay. The Hilton met all of our high expectations. We stayed on one of the Empyrean Club floors. The room was well appointed, the bed was very comfortable, 42" inch TV. The only nitpick is that we reserved a corner room with a city view (conscious choice); however, although we could still see the beach looking northward, there was no balcony and the slider could not be opened to allow us to hear the music from the 31st St stage. The complimentary breakfast in the club lounge was basic (fortuntaely being a Gold HHonors member scored me free daily buffet at Catch 31) but the evening hor d'oeuvres were good (shrimp, meatballs, crab wraps, cheeses, fruit, etc). The rooftop pools were small and I could image during peak swimming months could be less than desirable. Fortunately for us the weather (little cool and damp) and the festival activities kept folks away. The SkyBar remains open through Oct 31st so we could enjoy drinks poolside.

I had read many complaints regarding the elevators, but in all of our many trips, we never had to wait an inordinate amount of time. Considering the weekend activities and all of the convention/wedding parties, I was very surprised at how well the elevators moved everyone - they are loud though.

I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone.

We loved our first stay in Virginia Beach, largely due to the Hilton. We wanted to have a quick getaway and stay right on the beach and that's what we got with some extras thrown in.

First, we had a teen and tween in our group. We wanted to be within walking distance of restaurants and shops and oceanfront. The Hilton is right on the Boardwalk on the Northern end of the strip, steps from the sand, next to the statue of King Neptune. For our kids, it was the perfect location. We could walk right out of the hotel and onto the beach where a wonderful vendor sets up beach loungers, chairs, umbrellas and cabanas for you. Hilton guests get towels and vouchers for free chairs (not loungers). This perk saved us a great deal of money.

Next, the Hilton is right next to one of the band shells that have free concerts every night. You can sit outside at the Hilton Bar and see the Concert, or sit on your balcony and see it in comfort if you are on the left side of the hotel (as you face the beach). Conversely, if you want quiet at night, stay on the right side of the hotel.

We stayed on the right side of the hotel in an Ocean view room. You could see the ocean for miles from everywhere in the room, except the bed. We loved our room! The beds are really comfortable, and the rooms are nicely decorated for a beachfront hotel. The bathroom amenities included aloe vera for sunburns which was a nice touch. There is no need to pay extra for Ocean front, unless you want to stay in a suite. Staying in an Ocean View room saved us some money, and as a perk, the right side of the hotel is the "Fireworks" side. We could see the nightly fireworks without leaving the room!

Valet parking here was only $14/day! We've never seen such cheap valet parking and the staff always had our car ready when we called ahead, caught the elevator, and came outside. We never waited.

The pool level is on the 21st floor. There are matching indoor and outdoor pools. They are not very big, and it gets really hot up on that level, but it was fun for the kids. We tend to prefer the beach, but the pool level is worth a few hours if you like pools. There are loungers, tables with umbrellas, a hot tub and a Sky Bar. The bartenders at the Sky Bar, Daniel and Jared, were really nice and make good drinks. They were very nice to our kids, mixing up fancy milkshakes for them and not condescending to them. Our kids loved being treated like they mattered; the Hitlon has two fine gentlemen in these bartenders. The pool does tend to attract a 20-30 year old crowd, but the people we met were nice and didn't seem to be bothered by the kids in the pool. The only downside to the Sky Bar is the food: it is AWFUL. It's cold sandwiches and salads and very expensive. For the same price, you can go downstairs to the Hotel restaurant and get a really nice lunch.

A major part of our enjoyment of the Hilton was the staff. Kudos to Hilton for hiring great people. Elizabeth at the front desk checked us in quickly, gave us tons of great info and started our stay of right! The housekeepers work really hard and always smiled at us, we appreciated how well and how quickly they cleaned our room.

The only major downside to the Hilton was the timeshare push at the towel/concierge desk. Hilton needs to stop this, it is extremely uncomfortable for guests and a major annoyance. Every time you walk by to go outside, or stop for a towel or directions, one of the staff asks you to take a time share tour. Every single time! I can't fault the staff. If you said no, they were very polite and stopped pushing. We were very clear that we would never take a tour, and then that staff member left us alone, but another staff member would pop up and we would have to firmly decline with that one. I hate being rude, but really, hotel guests are not captives; we just want a towel and a beach chair. We finally cycled through all of the staff and they didn't bother us after that. So it seems the staff is very professional and polite, but corporate Hilton must have told them to push hard.

All in all, this was one of the best beach hotels I've been to. Clean, well decorated, mildly luxurious and extremely convenient.

Room Tip: As you face the beach, stay on the left side if you want to hear the daily concerts. Stay on the ri...

If you are looking for an upscale experience on the beach with highly attentive staff, look no further. From the moment we stopped the car and were greeted by valets and bellman, breezing through the check in (does anyone not know our names?). A lovely experience. The rooms are very clean and nicely appointed. Spring for a corner beachfront room- the view is worthy. Watching the fighter jets in and out of Oceana NAB is entertaining. We have enjoyed our stay very much.
