Following recommendations here we visited this restaurant last evening.
It seemed very strange to end up in a row of undistinguished looking shops then open the restaurant door to discover a beautifully appointed wood panelled room.
The welcome, though polite, was not warm and although we had telephoned to reserve a table no mention was made of the booking.
Iced water and bowls of salad were produced immediately though I find salad to be a strange accompaniment to pre-dinner drinks.
We ordered wan-ton and a single steamed spring roll each as starters. The wan-ton were crisp and light and I enjoyed the spring roll but my wife found hers unpleasant in texture, good for me!
The main courses were shrimp pad thai and a mixed steamed sea food dish. We asked for it to be hot and the waiter seemed very concerned that we did not know what we were asking for especially as we asked for the salmon to be omitted.
The presentation was rather off - putting i.e wrapped in a sheet of foil but the flavour was excellent and it was hot, well, quite hot, The portion of noodles was huge so we didn't manage to finish it. It was immediately packaged to take home; something of which we approve.
By this time (around 8.15pm) we were the only diners in the restaurant. Two or three couples had been, eaten and left since our arrival. This is something I don't think we will ever get used to in the US.
The waiter was again surprised when we asked for the dessert menu. He mentioned two dishes both, unfortunately, containing coconut which one of us can't eat. However my coconut rice with fresh mango was delicious and the mango was good to share.
