“Another Great Stay at the Capes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

I stayed at the Capes for the massive sand soccer tournament - 10,000 players and their families flood the hotels. Over the 17 years I have been coaching I have stayed in at least ten of the resort strip hotels, and this is by far my favorite. The location is excellent, the staff friendly, the rooms clean and large, the attached restaurant is convenient and it is family friendly. This is not a five star hotel - and not trying to be. I plan on returning next year without question.

Room Tip: If you have a family get one of the suites - which can easily sleep six and come with a full refrige...

I stayed at the Capes Hotel twice with my family for vacation and it was an incredible stay both times. The front desk staff were welcoming, had a smile on their faces, and were very friendly. Cleaning staff came to our rooms every day and were on top of everything and would make sure they cleaned everything before leaving the room. The bathroom is really small but it is still clean and has everything you will need. Beds are nice and clean. If you want a nice and clean hotel to stay at during your time in Virginia Beach, then The Capes Hotel is just the right place for you. Enjoy your stay at Virginia Beach, and at The Capes.

Room Tip: If you want a better view of the boardwalk and beach, you will want a room that ends in 01-04 not 05...

We just had a wonderful two night stay at The Capes. After a chain hotel totally messed up our reservation on Memorial Day weekend Barbara & the staff there did everything they could to get my husband & our two young children a room last minute. The hotel is in a great location for ocean views, food, & entertainment. The staff are honestly some of the best I've EVER experienced; and I'm kind of hard to please when it comes to customer service. The rooms are not super luxurious five star type but everything was very clean & comfortable perfect for a family stay at the beach. The room had a handy microwave, mini fridge, & lots of cabinet space. The large balcony deck was AMAZING! The hubby & I were able to enjoy a little "us" time after the kids were asleep .. Not all the rooms had this feature but ours did!! (205) The cafe downstairs was great; reasonably priced & the staff were unbelievably friendly to our kids & us. I don't know if I've been in Maryland/DC too long or if all the people at the Capes were THAT nice. Had a great trip!!! Found a new favorite place to stay in BA Beach!!!! Can't wait to come back

We just rtn. from the Capes, we were there May19-24. We found the room to be very clean #402.and the view from the balcony was great. I thought the price for 5 nights was reasonable. The check-in went fast after 14 hours driving time from Canada. Everyone was very friendly and said hello when you passed by.Would stay again

Room Tip: 402, a one bd. and have stayed in a 2 bd.

The hotel is located in a great spot. Everything is in walking distance. The front desk staff was very nice & personable. But it is over priced based on what we experienced. The ocean view from the balcony is absolutely awesome. Our room was ok-it didn't look anything like the one in the pics on the website. The only real issue I had was with house keeping. The didn't clean anything or change the bed linens. I had a Zest soap box in the bathroom & the green color from the box got on the toilet. That stain was on the toilet lid our entire stay. They never wiped it down, which made me wonder if it had ever been cleaned. The sinks & counter tops were not touched & there was toothpaste splatter on the mirror that remained our entire stay. They only thing they did was change out the trash bags & make up the bed that had dirty linen on it. I'm not discrediting the hotel at all-maybe housekeeping was having a bad weekend. Overall we had a good stay. If I visit Va Beach again I will consider the Capes but only if the house keeping staff is doing a better job.

Thank for taking the time out of your day to let us know how your stay was. I am very happy to hear that our staff was enjoyable and friendly and the oceanfront view was awesome! Our room pictures have just been updated to reflect the recent room improvements. New pictures are now online on our website as well as on our facebook page. I apologize you found our housekeeping to be lacking during your stay. Our housekeeping department works very hard to ensure everything is keep clean. If you had only notified the desk, I would have had our housekeeping supervisor at your room to address your concerns. We hope you will continue to use us as your lodging of choice when vacationing in Virginia Beach, and look forward to welcoming you back in an effort to provide you the level of service you expect from The Capes Hotel.

We just returned from a long weekend at the Capes Hotel where we really enjoyed our stay. The room was very clean and was exactly as pictured on the website. I had read previous reviews so I knew to take coffee cups and supplies along. We enjoyed having the full size coffee pot so we could drink coffee on the patio while watching the dolphins in the morning before venturing out. Every person at the desk was super friendly, always saying hello or asking how our bike ride was. Didn't use the pool but it looked nice and clean as well. Internet connection was great. If we decide to return to Virginia Beach we will definitely stay at The Capes!

The Capes is in a central location on the boardwalk, and all rooms have a balcony facing the ocean. The room is not especially big but it's fine for a family of four, with some space for the kids to spread out on the floor to play. The bathroom is not modern but it's clean, and there's a kitchenette area with fridge, microwave, coffee maker and lots of shelf space (but no plates, silverware, or coffee). The management was pleasant, and parking (in an overflow lot half a block away) was actually quite convenient.
If you choose this hotel in part for the indoor pool (as I did), be aware that it's not nearly as big as the photos make it out to be; you could go crazy trying to do laps for an hour. The hotel does provide free guest membership to a YMCA with all kinds of pool and exercise options, but it's several miles away.
One thing to be aware of: if you like to fall asleep to the soothing sound of the ocean, you may wake up to the loud carousing of your neighbors in the wee hours of the morning, or if not that, then to the garbage trucks and sweepers that hit the beach at 6:00 AM and never let up afterwards. And there's no screen on the sliding glass door to the balcony, so anything that wants to can fly inside (though to be fair, we only found one moth).
The Capes worked out fine for us; nothing to rave about, but no serious complaints either.

Room Tip: All rooms seem more or less equivalent, with oceanfront balconies. We were on the fourth floor and...
