“Perfect Family Setup”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2011

It's not easy to find a place that's big enough for two families for only a long weekend. Using TripAdvisor, we found the Breakers which has a "penthouse" with two bedrooms, two full baths, a tiny kitchette and living space and, best of all, a rooftop deck with lounge chairs that overlooks the beach and is safe for little kids! The kitchen was really only good for making coffee and having cereal (altho there was a microwave and two electric burners). The room is nothing fancy to be sure but clean and comfortable with a TV in each bedroom and the living room. We went with our son and his wife and baby and it was perfect! People at the desk are nice and very accomodating. There's a small outdoor pool and a little restaurant (which we did not try). Parking for one car is included. The hotel is right on the beach which is great! Only criticism was that there's a jacuzzi tub in one bedroom that is very inviting but hadn't been used in a while so there were tiny gnats in the jets which floated out when it turned on. Don't mean to imply that the place had bugs or was dirty but the tub wasn't all that pleasant!

Room Tip: Room 808 (on the 9th floor actually)

Great value! I just returned from a fantastic week at the Breakers! I've stayed at several other oceanfront properties on Virginia Beach, but for this price (or any price), this is the best I've found. The location is close to some of the best food, all of the fun, and parking is excellent. I've finally found the ultimate vacation destination in Virginia Beach!

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms overlooking (or next to) the pool.

Over the years we have stayed at about a dozen of the Oceanfront hotels here, some good and some bad. However, in the last few years, we have only stayed at the Breakers in both June and over Thanksgiving. While this is not a huge chain hotel with tons of amenities, it is a good basic Oceanfront hotel that is well maintained by the family that built it. Service is excellent. The coffee shop is very good for breakfast (get the Seahawk) and lunch. Parking can be a little tight sometimes, but at least it's not across the street like a lot of places. Any minor problems are usually quickly remedied by the staff, who really care about their hotel. While we could easily afford the high priced places, we prefer to stay here. Excellent value in a great little hotel!

Just returned from a wonderful trip to Virginia beach. I can not say enough good things about this hotel. I will say if your looking for the Hilton then head up the beach and pay double or triple. If your looking for a clean, friendly and quiet place to stay for a reasonable price... then this is perfect. Its location couldn't be better, central to everything. The staff was great, (American) family owned, always a plus. Anything we asked for they did. My kids noticed the owners personal boogy boards and asked to use them all before I could correct them they handed them over, asking only that we made sure they found their way home... you don;t find service like that anymore. The cleaning staff was great, fresh towels everyday first thing and filled any request right away. They have a nice restaurant in the hotel that is open for breakfast and lunch...try to find a cheaper meal on the strip and the food was good. Yes, the elevator is slow... your on vacation, relax it gets you there. The weather was not the best one of the days we were there and they posted rainy day vacation ideas in the elevator, nice touch. The building isn't the newest or the greatest but you can tell the family puts their heart and soul into making it nice. I stayed here because of other reviews that said this is the only place they and their family stay... now I can agree, if my family is in Virginia beach, then breakers will be our home while we are there. Thank you to the staff for helping make my kids first trip to the ocean memorable... hope to see you all soon

The Breakers Resort Inn was such a pleasant surprise. We extended a business trip in DC and added a few days at VA Beach. Our hotel in DC was over $200 a night and of course paid for by our employer. We were bracing ourselves to adapt to a hotel that was in our budget range. We called the hotel to make the reservation within an hour of our arrival.

When we arrived close to 7 pm, the front desk staff greeted us and checked us in promptly. We asked for and received the "Bargain Breakaway" rate at $65 per night. The dates are limited to during the week on the "Bargain Breakaway" dates but they worked into our schedule. You can check out the rest of the 2011 discounted dates on their website.

We were on the 6th floor (#605) with an outstanding view of the beach. I could lie in bed with the drapes opened and see the waves in the ocean. We left the drapes opened all night and when I opened my eyes in the morning (still lying in bed) I could see a beautiful sunrise over the ocean.

The room was immaculate from the clean bedding (yes I did check for bed bugs) to the newer carpeting. We had a small refrigerator and microwave in our room. The bathroom was clean. Corian sinks and even the shower liner were spotless. The towels weren't as plush as I'd like but they were clean.

There is a little restaurant adjacent to the hotel. You can get a well cooked meal and it's not overpriced.

The bikes out front were in good shape along with the helmets however; there were only about 6 bikes. Not a big deal to us since we usually don't rent bikes.

The pool was small however; was heated well. We mainly stayed at the beach. We also used the free internet and had an excellent signal.

The location is ideal. It's within walking distance of the pier and beach. There is a convenience store (7-11 I think) across the street to get last minute items.

BEWARE -- It is well known (not to us of course) the traffic leading into and out of VA Beach can be packed during certain times. We came through around 5 pm heading to VA Beach thinking everyone would be leaving the beach, and got caught in a huge traffic jam. The military let's out early on Friday's between 10 am - 1 pm so if you leave the beach on a Fri. be sure to avoid these times.

The person working in the restaurant said the place was built in 1983. The rooms have been updated and certainly don't look to be over 25 yrs. old! The person working in the restaurant said it is family owned.

The one thing I don't like about Virginia Beach is there aren't palm trees like in Florida or Myrtle Beach. Otherwise, the beach is clean and I felt safe there.

I would definitely recommend this hotel and will be back again.

Staff very friendly and helpful with directions to places. We had a standard room and a suite. Both were nice with great views. Located in the middle of everything. My first visit to Virginia Beach and very happy we stayed at The Breakers.

Room Tip: Check their website for breakaway days!
