“All rooms face the ocean.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013 via mobile

Used coupon from Travel Coupon book. Got a great rate on a room facing the ocean. Restaurant on site so did not even have to leave building for dinner or free morning breakfast. In the morning after breakfast, watched from our room as a family of 15 dolphins swam past the hotel. Hard to beat that most anywhere.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

We've stayed in this hotel several time over the years--all before I started reviewing--and we keep coming back. We like being near the southern end of the boardwalk, so that starts us off well. A big reason we like it is that all the rooms have an ocean view--that's hard to beat. The south side also overlooks the roof of the attached restaurant; but that's not a major issue with the surf pounding--or never has been with us.
We're always there in the off-season, so their outside pool has never been open. The inside pool, though across the street, is probably the largest pool in any hotels we've recently used, and it's always about 88 degrees--really nice for a chilly March evening. They don't have a hot tub, nor a fitness center.
The breakfast is served in the attached restaurant. They have a decent selection of foods, typical of the included breakfasts. We have had dinner in the restaurant, called CHIX, and it was OK, but nothing special.
There are a few things that should be noted: The room we were in for this stay was in an area that was redone about four years ago. It's starting to show some age. One of the promotional magazines in the room was worn and had a sticky surface so we just tossed it. Cleaning staff should have noted that before we did. We also noted that the sheet--though freshly laundered--has some staining on it. Not a health issue; but certainly unsightly. There are some other issues that I believe are related to the time of year, so wouldn't be fair to discuss here. If we get back during peak use, we'll have a better opinion. In fairness, we've had a couple maintenance issues there on our stays and all have been resolved--or at least good attempts made--within reasonable times. If you need something fixed or changed, just ask!
All that said, for the price range it's still one of our favorite hotels and we'll likely be there on a future trip to VA Beach.

Room Tip: North side rooms might be offer better views, as noted above.

We stayed here last summer with an extended family so we got two adjoining rooms on the first floor where you can walk right out to the pool! The lobby was nice and check-in was quick and the staff were very friendly. My grandma, 90, got a wheelchair from a company and the front desk was very helpful for this. We checked in to the rooms and they were very clean and equipped with everything, including a flat screen tv. The no elevator waiting was a plus! We also had chairs outside like the upper floors. The room had a safe and a sink area outside the bathroom., another plus. Beds were very nice and comfortable. You can just sit outside in the evening at relax and the boardwalk. The lobby had 24 hr coffee and tea. The FREE BREAKFAST is awesome. They had hot items like scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, and meats in addition to begals, fruits, yogurt, oatmeal, granola and cereals, and pastries and coffee. It is right in the hotel and saved us a lot of money. The breakfast attendant, Anita, was the Nicest lady. She had that southern hospitality and was so friendly to our family and everyone. The restaurant in tha hotel, Chix Seagrill and Bar, was also very good. There is a sports bar there. The outdoor pool was very large and had a nice sun deck. They serve poolside snacks in season which include popcorn, snowcones, and ice cream sundaes. There is also an indoor pool with restrooms. Both pools are kept very clean and there are bike rentals in the pool area as well. We got housekeeping every day and they did a very good job. There is a parking garage across the street with pleanty of space. The town is awesome and they hotel has great service, amenities, cleanliness, and value. Stay at this hotel on your next visit!! We were here for about a week and a half and the staff was more than friendly. The continental breakfast was good, warm and filling. Much better than MANY hotels of the same caliber. There is a restaurant attached to the hotel and we ate there more than half the days we were there. Yes it's an older hotel, but I have never understand why people complain about that. The rooms were clean. The bed was comfortable. And the staff had good customer service. Those are the three most important things to us for any hotel. The hotel was in Much better repair than many we have stayed in of that age. The only only thing we could complain about, was the halls and entrance to rooms are thin. Making getting the luggage cart around intetesting. The cart could not be pulled into the room. For most this would probably not be an issue, however we travel for lengthy stays, constantly and for work. So we travel with alot. This was the only readon we did not give it full marks. But for the comfort, service, ease of attached restaurant, and hello balcony! ( LOVED waking up to the sight of dolphins most days. Watching surfers and the ships coming and going) totally a great hotel. I will note this hotel appears to be in the flight line for jests taking off. Was not a problem for us at all. We liked watching them. I think for some it could be though. We personally would yes stay here again.

I was on the 6th floor of the south wing, the view was beautiful at this time of the year. The room was clean, but the hotel and rooms are very outdated. I had a great rate so as long as the room was cleaned appropriately the outdated furniture doesn't matter to me, but it may to some people. I didn't try the continental breakfast, but I did get to see it on Sunday while getting coffee and rushing to leave. The have REAL scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, all the bread items, cereal, and I think I saw a waffle maker, and yogurt. I'm sure it's more , but that's what I remember seeing. It looked really good too. They don't have vending machines on all the floors, but they do give you a sheet when checking in letting you know which floors the machines are on. I would recommend this hotel, and stay here again.

Room Tip: The 6th floor has the best view, and ask for the south wing.

Gave this hotel a second chance because the view was wonderful and the rate was competitive however the hotel is old (yuck) and the staff is never pleasant. Leaving early this time because their in-house restaurant food made me ill and their manager was nothing if not sarcastic. Got a refund on the food and was sick overnight. Not a good experience.

This hotel has some age on it and it shows. It was clean, but it could use some serious updating. The door did not close all the way unless you pushed on it very hard. I had an oceanfront room on the top floor during the Neptune Festival. It was wonderful for that, as I could see the amateur sand sculptures being built while being away from the crowds of the vendor booths. It would also allowed for some spectacular sunrise views (but it was cloudy on the days I was there). Breakfast had a good selection in the attached restaurant, with friendly people keeping the food selections supplied. If you want to rent a bike to cruise the boardwalk, there is a bike rental booth located conveniently in the pool area. Also, it is close to many restaurants and bars. I reserved this room with points from my Choice Privileges account which said it would have been $250/night if I had paid for it. The Soda machine outside my door was pretty noisy and there was some sort of mechanical unit that ran constantly making noise (HVAC maybe?). It was a good deal using my points, but if I had paid $250 I would have been disappointed.

Room Tip: If you want to see the ocean get an oceanfront room on an upper floor. The bottom floor will have n...
