“Wow, very special attraction”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013 via mobile

Where else can you walk among flying aircraft and touch them. Usually you have to look at them from a distance from behind a rope. Not here you walk into the hangars among these historical aircraft. Skip the guide was full of interesting information and was clearly passionate about these beauties. All working aircraft, all restored to working order. Thanks for a wonderful experience.

“Unique museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

Had an event at this museum. It is clean, well preserved and nice experience. It is farther away than we thought. Would recommend to any visitor in area though.

“Extraordinary look at military (WW I, WW II) aviation .”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2013

The museum has a wide variety of Military planes from various countries. The aircraft are housed in clean, spacious hangers. The docent on our tour was very knowledgeable and accommodating to all questions. One claim to fame is that all planes are operational. Time spent at the Virginia Military Aviation Museum is well spent.

“Aviation History - you can see up close”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

You stand next to these historic aircraft and are humbled by the size and condition of these planes. The 1940's planes that won the war for the US are preserved in a totally restored condition. Most are flyable and up until this past summer they would fly the planes on a regular schedule. The almost new hangers and display space make viewing easy and comfortable. The staff of Docents are knowledgeable and do a wonderful job of covering the aircraft, the part they played in the war as well as helping you understand just what you are seeing. They have Naval Air and Army Air air and Marine Airplanes on display.

About 200 yards west of this large display hanger they have storage sheds with "Junk" . Well it's only junk because you can see an aircraft engine that is one of the last ones in existence and it cost $ 800,000 to overhaul.

One hanger which houses replicas of World War I aircraft is breath taking. Built to reflect the era, the wood inside the building transports you to the equivalent of a fine hunting lodge of the the early 1900's. Just a few yards away you will find a Quonset hut type hanger that was parted out and shipped to the US from Germany. It was restored and then assembled and the outside metal replaced, except for the original doors. You can find holes and damage to this structure that was inflect by US bombers during the war.

Several German WW II planes including a Tri Motor are on display.
Take the time to visit, give yourself several hours to soak up the history and bring your camera to help you recall this wonderful museum.

“Great Museum”

This was the most interesting aviation museum I've visited in a long time. The guides were exceptional. If you are interested in old planes, this is the place to go.
