“Beware of bait and switch”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2012 via mobile

Definitely unhappy. Booked several months ago in the OCEANFRONT, well in advance of the season and received a great rate. Best Western charged as a reservation fee, one nights charge, so little recourse but to take what ws offered. Since I was in town when I made the reservation, even went by and looked at the hotel and talked to the staff. Oops facing the ocean, clean rooms and friendly staff. Imagine my surprise when I arrived to check in and was told I was across the street in a newly renovated old motel.instead of the ocean, I was in a room that they built their parking garage around. Yes, the beach is nearby, yes, the room(s) were OK but given 2 miles of hotels on the beach and the rate wasnt that good, I would have chosen a different hotel. I think the real answer was they bumped their prepaid room out of the main hotel to accommodate the 5 bus loads that arrived the same day I did. Never again.

When reservation made was shown picture of beautiful building across street. Called week before to confirm reservation and was told my room was not in main building, was not told it was in broken down hole across street. Old nasty motel, very seedy and smelled like smoke. When I complained, desk guy could care less. Don't book room here!

We stayed here as a team for a local cheer competition in March. Rooms were nice and clean a bit dated. Beds were too hard for my liking but clean and changed daily. Parking was awful - even tho over flo is across the street trying to hike bags and kids as a solo adult was a chore. The pool was large, but the cholrine would knock you over. With the condensation dripping down you almost needed an umbrella to sit by the pool. The balconies over the beach were great. Breakfast was nice and a good amount.

After driving over six hours, we finally arrived at the Best Western. My family was greeted by a unfriendly "manager". In a monotone voice, the first words out of her mouth was "name" and "can I have a credit card". She handed me a paper to fill out and stated "initial and sign". After carrying our luggage to our room, we decided to get a bite to eat. When closing the room door, I realized a half inch gap between the door jam and the door. This defect could allow any individual to use a plastic card to jimmy the lock and break in. So our family went back to the front desk to get any room. We had friends staying at the same hotel and they had the same opinion of Jessica, rude and unfriendly. In a positive note, the hotel was a value at $88. After moving to the new room, we were presently surpurised how roomy it was . The rooms in the new wing are a lot nicer than the other rooms. Breakfeat was stand fare. The hotel was clean and the beds comfortable. No microwave or flat screen TV. The rest of the staff were friendly. I would stay there again if I was in the new wing.

Room Tip: Request new wing.

Housekeeping is superb, desk staff are very efficient! We arrived 12hrs late (stuck at SFO due to fog en route from West Coast) & called to tell front desk staff we were going to be late & they were very accommodating :)
Only complaint we had was the "concierge" lady seated at a desk in between the front entrance doors. She called our room saying she had a "welcome package". She monopolized our time trying to bait us into going to tour a time-share...very annoying to say the least...and she tried to get us to provide personal financial info, show her a credit card for "ID purposes & then give her a $20 "deposit" refundable when we toured the time share...ridiculous! Disappointing having this intrusion seated in the lobby of the hotel!

Stayed at the BW Oceanside late September/October. weather was unusually stormy which puts a damper on any holiday. The balcony views of the Ocean are great but would I imagine be brilliant on a clear sunny day. The room was clean and well maintained. Plenty of space. The bathroom was fine although probably past needing a refit. we didn't have any problem with noise from inside or out so you can get a restful night.
Parking is free and available. If the parking at the front is full as it quite often is, there is an overflow just across the street.
Didn't eat in the hotel although the restaurant, price and menu looked fine. Just didn't have the time.

Room Tip: I'd recommend an Oceanfront room for the few extra dollars.
