We were both delighted to find what felt like a quaint country cottage so close to the sea in a large beach resort. Steve and Marie-Louise even took the trouble of hoisting the British "Union Jack" flag next to the Starts and Stripes to welcome us. The cottage was a delight with great attention to detail - chocolates in the hall, a fridge full of drinks and water, towels, chairs and boogie-boards for the beach. You could even borrow a bike! The room was pretty and comfortable but the big treats were rocking chairs on the porch at night and the breakfast experience! To sit at one table with the other guests is not something the reserved English do at B&Bs. However the mixture of home-cooked food and great conversation with the other guests and also with the owners made for a long, lingering morning meal. I think one breakfast lasted from 9:00 until 10:30! Great food, great fun and fantastic people Barclay seems to attract nice folk. A run before breakfast in the glorious sunshine along the 3 mile boardwalk with scores of runners and walkers helped to build up an appetite. There was a wealth of sound advice on where to go and where to dine and CDs & books to borrow. Nothing was too much trouble. A super place to stay for my first trip to the States and, although it is a long haul from UK, as your California Governor once said, "I'll be back!"
