Barclay Cottage at Virginia Beach is two blocks from the waves, but seems much farther from the stark highrises that front on the walk. It is a lovely building in which you find multitudes of interesting items wherever you look. The innkeeper has added conveniences and touches that are pleasing--ones that one may not even think of requesting. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there.

Where do I begin? I have had 3 delightful stays at Barclay Cottage and plan more for the future. Both the cottage and the innkeepers are charming and the accomodations offer a welcoming and cozy atmosphere. From the time you arrive until the day you depart, you will be embraced with lavish hospitality (but not intrusively), well appointed-clean-quiet rooms, and ammenities that will pampered you. You will feel the genuine joy and the servant hearts of Maire Lousie and Steve throughout your stay as they go above and beyond to provide you will all thay you may want or need. The breakfasts are gourmet, the cottage is spotless (TY Dawn), and there is so much to see and experience in this central beach location. You will not be disappointed....you will truly experience a relaxing and wonderful time!

This is the third or fourth time we've stayed at Barclay Cottage and it had been a few years since our last stay. This was past the summer season and Virginia Beach was quiet. Marie-Louise and Steve (the innkeepers) were gracious hosts just as we remembered. The breakfasts over our three day stay were nothing short of amazing! Roasted pepper omelets, pancakes hot off the griddle, fruit selections. The presentation was top notch and Marie-Louise seemed to read our minds (or at least our stomaches) about what would appeal to us for breakfast.
I read some notes in the room's guest book about jet noise (duh, your near one of the largest Naval Air stations in the country) but I don't think you can avoid that in VB. The inn provides complimentary ear plugs (helps jet noise and/or snoring). I read another comment about not changing sheets and towels daily but it's clear from the Inn's postings that they are trying to be environmentally responsible and would change linens and towels daily upon request (yeah, the heck with the environment, just make me comfortable! Really?) Just to be clear, being green is important to us and Barclay's attitude is appreciated.
We'll be back again next time we're in town

There is nothing that my husband and I can say about Barclay Cottage that hasn't been said before. We booked here on the recommendation of a good friend and expected it to be good. However, nothing prepared us for the warmth, hospitality, cleanliness, cuisine and friendliness that we experienced. Steve and Marie Louise are inn-keepers pas excellence and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend them and their absolutely beautiful home to anyone. The breakfasts are what dreams are made of and even our fellow diners could have been handpicked for us! Thank you for a wonderful stay - can't wait to return next time we're in the U.S.
