“Great option for travel with dog”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2011

My family and I have stayed at this hotel twice. I have a small dog who loves the beach and walks on the boardwalk, so it is a great option for us.

The location is very convenient. It is one block back from the beach with lots of dining options in walking distance.

The pool is small but serves its purpose.

The complimentary breakfast is a very nice option. It has basic offerings, but we enjoyed the make-your-own waffles a lot.

The rooms could use an upgrade, but they aren't in horrible shape in my opinion. It is not a 5 star motel by any means, but it is comparable to most moderate motels in the beach area.

This was our first visit to VA beach and a La Quinta and overall a good time. We took our labrador and were glad the hotel was dog-friendly. They even had a pet walk area adjacent to accomodate him. Basic rooms, average Cont. breakfast, and not a bad price for only 2 blocks from beach.

Room Tip: Don't go here if you don't like dogs---lots and lots of them.

The location, facility, room, and breakfast were great for the price. Unfortunately the morning after we checked in an owner took off for the beach without her dog. The poor thing barked for hours. It was rough as we had planned to sleep in. The front desk staff could not do anything other than calling the owner who simply said she's sorry.

Seriously, this place is a dump. The elevators and hallways were filthy and constantly reeked of ethnic food. Upon arrival, we were greeted by an enormous cockroach on the wall. But don't worry...the bug guts that were smeared on the wall in the act of killing pale in comparison to the stained couch and carpet in the room. Can't comment on the breakfast...there's no way I would eat from this place. Please look elsewhere.

It is a nice place to stay if you wish to go to the beach every day; you will pay half the price than all the oceanfront properties and you only have two streets to cross. I did not have any problems with the staff or the room, We stayed on the 5th floor and although we saw a lot of dogs, there were no smells or noise. I can say for sure it is very pet friendly. The only negative things about it is that the room is a little smaller than what we are used to and that there is no balcony. Other than that, everything is more than ok. You havewireless internet in the room and we always had hot water for showers although we were 5 taking showers almost at the same time.

Room Tip: For an extra 10$ per night you can get an extra bed in your room

Hotel well situated. Clean overall but cleanliness of the bathroom could have been better. Breakfast is OK. We had some problem at breakfast. Manager support was A1++. Problem was resolved expediously. Hotel is great if you travel with pet. Pets were very well behaved at the hotel. Close to First landing State Park if you desire to bring your dog for a swim in the ocean.

Overall evaluation. Would stay there again.

We stayed here for 2 night and thought it was okay. The rooms were fairly clean and basic. There is free wireless and free parking. The 2 pools looked nice but we did not use them.

We skipped housekeeping since it was a short stay (the desk will give you fresh towels) but we we often saw them working late into the afternoon. Our tub drain was slow to drain and left you standing in a tub full of water however we didn't report it until check out since we were in and out frequently and didn't want anyone in our room while we were out. I did tell the maintenance man that the rear hotel doors were sticking and not locking properly. He acted like it was a new issue and said he would look at it but judging from the rub marks on the doors it has been an issue for a while.

The free breakfast is a plus but it consisted of waffles (you make your own and they cook in 2 minutes), cold cereals, some fruit, muffins, toast and bagels. If your there for more than a couple days it will grow old. On our 2nd day they milk machine and apple juice dispensers were empty which we could understand if they were busy but we were there right after opening.

The hotel is showing some wear and tear but that seems to be the norm for beach hotels. We saw several guest with dogs but never heard them from our room, also there was no trace of pets in the room. It is a 2 block walk to the boardwalk (when you include the block from Atlantic Ave to the boardwalk) and you do have to cross Pacific Ave which can be busy at times.

Overall it was not bad but we probably would not stay again.
