“Warning Party Hotel - Not For Female Business Travelers”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2008

Read the reviews - here on business - not looking for anything fancy. Apparently they have changed from being a business hotel to P-A-R-T-A-Y central. At 12 MIDNIGHT a man with two women on his arm checked into the adjoining room next to me - loud obnoxious and ready to have F-U-N!! Took two calls to security and a threat to call the Virginia Beach police to get them to get him to be quiet. I dont know if they ever moved him. Its my experience that once the hookers move in - it no longer is a safe place to stay. I would strongly advise all business women to avoid this place. Hookers equal drugs and std's. It wasnt the cleanest looking but the sheets looked okay. This is only the second time I've stayed in a courtyard in the last year and I have to say - they are going downhill rapidly. I used to be a regular at the courtyards but now go to the Springhill Suites or the Hilton Garden Inn. I'm on the road about 120 nights per year rarely find anything to complain about BUT wanted to warn any female travelers to stay away from this place!!

I stayed here in July of 2007 on the way to the Outer Banks. It is a very typical Courtyard in room size, lobby size, and continental breakfast. The front desk were very helpful and friendly. For the most part, the hotel was clean. The rooms were fairly big, beds as always were extremely comfortable. Average bathrooms. We did visit the pool at night and were pleasantly surprised by its size. The pool area is enclosed by the hotel and is actually very pretty and pleasant. The continental breakfast was good with a terrific selection.

Travel for work approx 50-75 nites per year. Stay mostly at Marriott properties - many Courtyards. This is what I would call a very average Courtyard. Clean, good staff but nothing to make it stand out. Stayed 2 nites in early December. Would stay here again but only if property was in close proximity to my business need.

Stayed at this property for one night. Check-in went smoothly thanks to Tyler, the friendly clerk at the front desk. The room was large and featured a comfortable king bed. The bathroom was equally spacious. I appreciated the selection of cable TV channels, complimentary computer/Internet access in the lobby, and the complimentary coffee in the lobby. The hotel also features a breakfast buffet, pool, and small athletic room, none of which I used. One note of warning: the water in the shower and sinks can become dangerously hot. I have never experienced such hot tap water in my life, so guests should be cautious before entering the shower and must supervise children carefully.

Overall it was a very pleasant stay and I recommend this Courtyard Marriott to others. The rooms are pleasant and the service is friendly and welcoming.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2007

I stayed there for one night in August during a quick, mid-week, two-day trip to Virginia Beach. The hotel is located just off highway 264 but is tricky to get to b/c the exit somehow is on the local side of the highway (we just took the next exit and turned around). Also, we missed the quick turn onto the street where the hotel is located but it was easy to find our way back.

Check-in was easy. We took advantage of the government excursion rate and got the free breakfast. Otherwise it is about $10 per person for a buffet that isn't really worth $10. The room was clean and the beds were comfy with lots of pillows. The linen was soft, which was nice after a long drive. Our second floor room had a balcony with a sliding glass door that looked out onto a cute courtyard with a few big shade trees and a swimming pool. The hotel was very quiet despite being right next to the highway and I slept well. The best part was that it was 10 minutes to virginia beach - straight down the highway.

The only negatives were the gouge in the wall behind the door from the doorknob (there was no doorstop in the baseboard), the burn mark on the floor in front of the sink from someone leaving a hot iron face-down, and the fact that when taking a shower the bathtub didn't drain as fast as the shower water fell (leaving you standing in water by the end of the shower).

Overall, it was a good stay and I would stay there again.

Nowhere near beach or anywhere to eat decent. The rooms were typical of a Courtyard. I believe though this was one of the first Courtyards built. Very weird layout. They did not have a FREE continental breakfast but wanted to charge you $9.95 for basically the same thing. Ask for a free coupon upon check-in because not everyone has to pay...ie gov't workers. (Hidden secret.) There is a restaurant about 1.5 miles away called Surfrider. Excellent local dive seafood restaurant. There is a Ruby Tuesday about a mile away, and a Holiday Inn across the street that has a restaurant. Other than that, nothing around. The immediate area where the hotel is appears safe. It is in a cluster of about 10 hotels right off the interstate. Nearby is Norfolk's Vietnamese community so if you want authentic Vietnamese food it is close. This was a good place to sleep. Other than that, nothing to do. Prepare to drive unless you walk across to the Holiday Inn to eat. It's a LONG way from hear to Virginia Beach, and about a 10 to 15 minute drive back to Norfolk.
