“Felt like home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

I've been visiting Virginia Beach since I was a little girl and it always feels like home each time I go back to visit. I stayed at Beach Quarters back in 2009 with my husband and little girl and we stayed again last week for a week (this time we brought my cousin along with us).

The parking area is definitely hard to navigate (not much room).I was disappointed we were on the 2nd floor as we usually stay higher up - next time we will know to make a request. Our room was clean and stocked - the only thing I was not happy with was the fact that the bathroom was SO SMALL. I wish they would have put the bathroom door in the area where the double sinks were, but instead they put them where the toilet and tub were and the bathroom is the size of a coat closet. When you get out of the tub, you had no room. We would take showers and get out and have to say "I'm getting out of the shower, don't walk past!". I can't remember if our room from our 2009 trip was like that or not.

The staff was great! Every person we came in contact with smiled and said hello. My cousin and his fiance and their 7 month old came to visit us for two nights during our stay and the front desk even gave them a free parking pass (so very nice and much appreciated!).

We used the washers and dryers on our last full day - it is nice that they are accessible, I just did not expect them to be $2.00 each use. That's a bit much!

Another downfall is the fact that when you walk up and down the main strip, the goldkey sales people are sooo annoying. We would literally pretend to be on our phones and they would still bother us to the point we walked on the other side of the street if we didn't want to deal with them. Also, we went to attend one of their promos where they take you on a tour and try to sell you a timeshare - so we get there at 9:45am (our meeting was for 10am) and there are tons of other families so we filled out the info and waiting for a rep to call our name to begin the tour....sooner I realized we were the only ones in the room; we had been waiting AN HOUR and nobody ever came to get us! Finally someone comes over and asks what we were there for. Um are you serious???? That person then says they would be right back (they never returned). Finally, my husband decides that we will just leave so we go to the main desk and try to see what the heck is going on and then someone said "oh there are two families with your last name" OKAY....but did they not realize they only retrieved one family and not the other...anywho, they gave us our $25 deposit back and a $50 restaurant gift card even though if they actually would have taken us on the tour, we would have received a $100 which we really could have used since a bill for 3 people at Mahi Mah's ended up being $111 (holy cow!).

We do love BQ and would stay again for sure!

Beach Quarters is a great ocean front property. There are outside walkways leading to the one and two bedroom untis that all face the ocean. The kitchen is small but well stocked and updated. There is a roomy balcony off of the living room, (not the bedroom) as some resorts. The inside amenities are nice, pool, kiddie pool and hot tub. There is also a gym area with a separate hot tub. The outside pool is roof top and a great place for sun bathing. The food at the tiki bar is great for lunch. There is a well stocked activity center for the younger ones. We usually bring bikes when we stay on the ocean front because the boardwalk has a designated bike lane. Walking distance to fantastic restaurants, I recommend Watermans.

Room Tip: as far as I know there is not a bad room!!!

I really enjoyed my stay here, it is definitely right on the beach and close to everything. I dont know what makes a hotel a "resort" but this wasnt what I was expecting, small "gym" had to pay for services I thought would be included. Great rooms. The beds were very nice, the scenery is perfect of the beach. The conceirge was way too pushy, trying to get you to buy a timeshare, ANNOYING and sketchy. It did not make me feel comfortable.

We stayed here for a "babymoon" in mid April and had great weather. Beach was right there! No need to drive or do anything but walk outside hotel. We kept our door to balcony open all night to listen to waves crashing and it was so amazing. Amazingly enough not a single bug in the room from doing that as well. The rooms are nice because they have a kitchen so you can save money by grocery shopping for breakfast and lunches. There is an indoor pool but also a heated pool accessible for guests at the sister hotel across the street, which was a great option on the hot days ( the rooftop pool at bq wasn't open yet when we were there). Virginia beach in general keeps the beach and boardwalk immaculate so we were out there everyday walking and enjoying it. Lots of restaurants close by and within walking distance. The only thing we didnt like was because this is a timeshare that we traded for, they didn't have daily room service. They came once mid week to give us fresh towels and that was it. You could have opted for cleaning services at a fee. I would still highly recommend this to resort anyone, though. We had a great stay with an amazing view

We spent one night here for a little off season vacation. We were able to get a very good rate which we learned about by stopping at the visitors center on the way into town. The woman at the front dest was very helpful and nice and made for an easy check in. Our room was great, 2 separate rooms (2 TVs) with a door in-between, nice kitchen and balcony. The bathroom was a bit small, but up-graded. We were on the 10th floor with a wonderful view. The property is a time share, but we were not bothered by anyone, in fact never spoke to anyone at all about it. We found the location to be fine. It was easy to get to the beach and boardwalk, and there were several good restaurants well within walking distance. The parking area is tight and curvy and might be difficult for very big cars.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the view from a room on the 10th floor. The elevator worked fine.

we came down for a weekend to spend time with my stepdaughter whom is in the military. the off season rates were appealing so we decided to give it a try. dont be fooled just because it says RESORT it is not. we didnt care we were here for the beach the sights and the company of family. when you stay here if you think the pool is too small you can walk your butt over to turtle cay and get a card from them to use the outdoor heated pools so we did and enjoyed it very much! the room was nice (the bathroom is very small though also be warned the shower is not seperate from your room) and the view was wonderful. i like that it is toward the end of the beach so there is not much traffic. the employees that we encountered were very nice and very helpful. be warned they try to get you to buy into a time share. i have stayed with gold key on two seperate occasions and still havent gone through the time share crap. once again, maybe next time... all and all though with the 4 different hotels we have stayed in on the beach this runs a very close second to the boardwalk hotel! keep an open mind and give it a try!

Room Tip: the queen bed is more like a california king its HUGE!

The location is wonderful. As many as said before me, the upgrades aren't enough. The indoor pool was small and cloudy. There was an inch of dust on one of the lamps. My son ran his foot across it and his sock was full of dust- just gross.

Room Tip: If you don't have a high level floor I wouldn't bother.
