We love exploring our beautiful state of Virginia. A friend gave me a pretty stone mug from The Sugar Tree Inn, so we decided to check it out. Reaching the Inn can be a challenge along a winding road through the George Washington National Forest and a steep driveway, but it was well worth it!
We were attracted on their colorful website to the Rockbridge Room, one of four in the Log House, near the Main Lodge. It looks exactly like the internet pictures and we felt totally at home in our own private little world. The Log House was constructed from original barn wood, and our attractive room featured a wonderful, open wood-burning fireplace.
We went out for an early dinner to the Petro Truck Stop in Raphine (actually delicious food!) and returned to throw some wood provided on the fire and snuggle in. Reading together and falling asleep in front of the cosy fire was one of the most wonderful, peaceful experiences of our lives. And the queen-sized bed, hard to leave in the morning, was as comfortable as our bed at home
We scureid up the hill to the Main Lodge in the chilly morning, to be greeted by welcoming open fireplace and a delicious breakfast. Becky and Jeff won't reveal their secret for their special Baked Oatmeal, but it's worth the entire trip just to taste it! And Becky aceeded to my dietary restrictions by cooking an individual breakfast just for me. My husband enjoyed the cheesy eggs, grits, hot biscuits (carried to the breafast buffet by their adorable grandson), amazing fresh fruit, andhot coffee, served in a cup just like the one that brought me there.
Our hosts provided an extensive book that guided us after breakfast to Crabtree Falls and then to Wade's Mill before we headed home. All in all, it was absolutely the BEST Bed & Breakfast we have ever experienced (and we've been to a lot of them) - in every way, comfort, quiet, coziness, delicious food and wonderful hosts. We can't recommend The Sugar Tree highly enough and it will now be our "go to" place when we want to relax, rejuvinate and be taken care of. Thank you, Becky and Jeff, for a First Class experienc! Love, Annie and Mack
