Jalisco's is noteworthy for serving very good Mexican cuisine -- not Tex-Mex, Cal-Mex, or border food -- in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere (booths, tables, and a patio).
The dishes are authentic Mexican concoctions, superbly seasoned and spiced (I particularly like those with the green sauce). The menu is extensive, with soups, salads, meat, poultry, and seafood -- and desserts. The portions are generous. To help you think while perusing the menu, they bring not only a sauce with taco chips but a wonderful dish that looks a bit like coleslaw and is cool and crunchy.
You can get tacos if you want, in various combinations, and even there you are in for a real treat.
There are luncheon and daily specials.
We were told the owners hail from the Mexican state of Jalisco on the Pacific Coast (centered on Guadalajara), and many of their recipes are from there.
Jalisco's is part of a small chain in Virginia (I think this is number 5), and it is evident the owners pay attention to all the details.
My wife grew up in Dallas, and knows both border food and genuine Mexican cuisine. This is the real deal
We live in Staunton, and dine at Jalisco's on a regular basis.
