The Hilton McLean has been renovated and done right! Located next to Hilton's world headquarters they had "Hilton big wigs" overseeing the project. Decor is high end and sleek. What every modern new hotel should aspire to! Lobby is warm and cozy with lots of great conversation nooks and flat screen monitors everywhere. Like most hotels of this caliber, wifi is charged in 24 hour increments (about $12), but is free in the lobby with plenty of outlets and computers for guest use. It is also free in the room for gold and above Hilton Honors members.
They offer an assortment of room categories. We actually had one of their king bed rooms on a corner and while the decor is quite nice, sleek and modern, with a very nice bathroom... The room is strangely under furnished. It actually feels too big. They should have added a sofa and coffee table and perhaps called it a junior suite. I think it was just our room location, since we saw another door opened and it was the same, but properly proportioned. It just looks like they needed some of the furniture and moved it somewhere else. Anyway, the rooms have very advanced lighting with an assortment of "lighting themes". Relax, night light, high read, low read and such. You can adjust all the lights with the touch of one dummy friendly switch on either side of the bed. Very large work station, large wall mounted flat screen (but in our room, it is so far away, it doesn't really seem so big). In room safe, coffee maker and since we booked the concierge floor, we have bottled water and 2 robes. They also have an iron and very nice bath products. Not a mainstream fancy brand, but actually nice products! Some of the other room categories are: "yoga room" and an "exercise room". The yoga room has extra room and comes with a yoga mat and other equipment. The exercise room is larger and comes with a piece of cardio equipment. Perhaps our room was supposed to have something extra in the space and they didn't bother.
The hotel has a very nice brand new exercise room on the lower level. Nice new equipment with individual tv monitors on each piece. They also have water and towels. There is a pool there, as well, but I did not see it. I believe it is indoor, since I saw some "classy fellow hotel guests" trotting up to their rooms in wet bathing suits and it was raining. Most of the people staying here were appropriately dressed and seemingly of a higher caliber.
When you book a concierge room (floors 6-9), since their lounge is yet to be renovated... They said they had it all planned and corporate said it wasn't good enough, it is suppose to be amazing when it is done... They give you 2 vouchers/per person for a small plate and non alcoholic drink in the lounge per day. They also give you a voucher for "continental breakfast" in their award winning Harth restaurant. That basically equates to their $22/person breakfast buffet, which was LOVELY!!! The restaurant has the greatest feel, beautifully decorated and everything was beautifully presented, which is not usually the case. They put things out in relatively small portions and continuously have chefs checking and replenishing things. Everything was fresh, hot and delicious!
Staff at the hotel is friendly and very professional. The only thing I found unappealling was the "Embassy Suites" layout. You have a lobby, glass elevators, glass ceiling and the rooms circle around. The acoustics are lousy and you walk around an open hallway to your room. You would think people could fall over if they peered over too zelously and or had a few too many drinks, heading back to their room. I guess this design is not a concern, since it is fairly common, but it makes your room a little noisier. Ask for a lower floor, it is pretty to look down on the lobby. We were on the top floor and you just feel kind of dizzy walking around to your room. At least it is open and airy.
All in all, a beautiful hotel that Hilton should be really proud of! I would be pleased to stay here again and very close proximity to fabulous shopping!!!!
Two last things I have to mention... They have a great new door lock system that you just wave your key in front of the door and it unlocks. Pretty cool. And they give you lots of nice pillows. Bed was fresh smelling and comfortable.
