“Unacceptable accomodations”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2010

The staff was accomodating; that's the good part.
The rooms were not designed for a large group of kids (the 7th floor is not acceptable for teens). There were cockroaches in the three of the rooms and downstairs. The air conditioning did not work in four of our rooms, and it was extremely hot inside and out. There was no hot water for showers on Friday evening or Saturday morning.

On our way to North Carolina our teenage daughter suddenly became ill and we needed to pull for the night. As per our GPS the nearest hotel was the Best Western Tyson West Park Hotel, so we called, a room was available and they accepted AAA. We were giving a room that was reasonably priced, clean but stuffy. After my daughter settled in I sit in the fabric chair in the corner, rested my arms on the armchair when I noticed the chair did not look too clean and suddenly my arms started to itch. I quickly washed my arms with soap and water which helped with the subsided itching. Meanwhile my husband called the front desk regarding the stuffy room, reported that the AC did not appear to be working. The person at the front desk stated that the heat was still being operating in the hotel, the AC was not programmed, and that we should open the door and window to the room. So even though the room price was reasonable for an emergency stay; however, the itchy chair and stuffy room was no BARGAIN!

We needed a place to stay and couldn't look around due to the Nor'easter this past week.
Got off 495 and found the BW in McLean. It was a Friday night and there wasn't even a bellman to help with luggage, we went to the front desk and the young man sitting there, reading, barely picked his head up when my sister requested two rooms. He quoted a rate of $169 each! Luckily, we had coupons so we did get a decent rate. When we asked what was available for room service or a restaurant in the hotel, we were handed menus from local "take out" places.
The rooms were clean, but really need updating. For what would have been $169 without the coupon, there was no refrigerator, no microwave, no hair dryer, and the cheapest pieces of soap you can find. The topping on the whole fiasco was that it was a rather warm night, and the air condintioning did not work. When we called for help, we were told that only heat was available. We couldn't figure that one out because there were individual thermostats in each room. The best is that we were told to open the windows. I don't think so, find somewhere else to spend your money!

We were driving thru Virginia in our RV and I spent hours trolling thru the coupon books looking for something for two or three nights. When you don't know the area and in our case the country (we are from Australia) it is mind boggling to try and pick something from a book. It turned out to be about 20 miles from the city, was in an excellent location, a Starbucks straight across the road (opened Christmas day!) Lovely clean rooms, comfortable beds, heated Loo seat and great staff. Lots of room for our RV to park. Heated swimming pool was divine and they have an ATM...computers and lots of maps for planning.
Excellent.

Our family stayed here four days. I had looked online to book a hotel and couldn't find a room at a price I had hoped to pay. We had coupons that were given to us from the Visitor Center in Fairfax. Our room rate was 69-89 dollars (depending on the night we stayed) and that included breakfast and a shuttle to and from the Metro several miles away. The service was friendly and helpful...granted the rooms haven't been updated since the 80s, but we barely spent any time in the room except to sleep, anyway.

I stayed a weekend, and loved the free breakfast and computers. Room was ok, nothing great. Service is helpful. Liked the location.

I was hesitant since the last BW had a torn up wall with where a fridge used to be. They were really nice, and had a $69.95/night 'manager's special'. What a deal. Spacious adjoining rooms, pool, and hot breakfast w/bacon/scrambled eggs and more! People were friendly and helpful, and the place was close to DC (though not the metro and there was no shuttle.) Highly recommend.
