“Great place to visit”

The island is full of friendly people. There are good restaurants, nice gift shops, a nice beach, and lots of amazing scenery.

“Bring your own”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

TIny island in the middle of the bay, ferry service available from Onancock takes 1 hour each way. Town is small but quaint with sparse amenities. This is a dry island, no alcohol available anywhere, so bring your own bottle. No cell service either. There are a lot of things this island does not have, many of which are the reason to visit Tangier island. no cars, (well, maybe 3 or 4) no crowds(at least not after the last ferry off the island leaves around 4pm) no crime (island just too small, has one officer and I must have seen him once every 10 mins as he drove around and around the island till the wee hours) most shops close around 5pm, one restaurant, one food shack, and an ice cream parlor open till 8 or 9, then they roll up the sidewalks (if they had them). A day trip gives you around 4 1/2 hrs. on the island, plenty of time to see the island on foot but a golf cart rental is the best way to see Tangier. Staying overnight requires that you prepare to entertain yourself as only 1 of 3 b&bs has tv and everything closes early, but you will be rewarded with a beautiful, natural beach, practically to yourself before and after the day-trippers depart. The people of Tangier are friendly, and helpful, and made my visit most enjoyable in a laid back, quaint little island town

“Such a unique place...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

The boat ride from Reedville was entertaining, dolphins spotted on the way over and watched a fishing operation on the way back. The island museum is a must see. I enjoyed walking around the town and along the beach.

“what a place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

this island is pretty cool. they speak a version of olde english that is very hard to understand. The food on the island is amazing. they should call this place crab paradise. We did an island golf cart tour (5 bucks), the museum and rode bikes around the entire island in about 2.5 hours. Its really cool , the graves in the front yards is pretty creepy....fun place to visit! unless you have a boat you must take the ferry.

“Interesting, but not pretty”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

The boat ride was fine, but long and we should have brought books with us. The island is really not very attractive. There are few scenic views, and few nice houses. There is not litter, but a LOT of large trash everywhere-old bikes, boats, golf carts, scrap, in yards and all over the marshes. It is really a working island, not a charming tourist spot, so know that ahead of time. I am glad we went, but would not go again.
