“The "down home" customer service was great!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

I recently stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Suffolk Riverfront Hotel for three days in November of 2012. My first and lasting impression was about their fantastic customer service. From the front desk to the restaurant, everyone I encountered was pleasant, cheerful and warm. The rooms were a good size and provided work space at the desk, a microwave oven and a small in-room fridge, perfect for left-overs and snack on a longer stay. The parking is free and the drive was about 20 minutes to all larger cities in every direction. I has a nice room on the third floor with a view of the riverfront.

I received complementary breakfast coupons for all three days and ate at their on-site restaurant. The service was great! Our waitstaff even got our toast despite it being a serve-yourself buffet!

Overall, it's a great value and a great space. I would stay their again.

Great to hear you enjoyed your stay with us! The hotel is beautiful, has great views and is conveniently located but by far the best quality is the staff. It is always wonderful hear when someone experiences our warm "Southern Hospitality".

Thank you for staying with us and we hope you visit again soon.

I was informed that there would be an early check in however upon arrival I was told differently. This was what everyone in my group was informed. Once entering my room I was given a double bed room instead of the reserved King bed. I called the front desk, to be told that there were not any rooms left. Problems in the room: heater in room not working, iron only could be used in one direction (rough bottom) and luke warm water for a shower in the morning. We were suppose to get vouchers for food but they couldn't locate them. In the morning I went to eat breakfast and the servers didn't know how to deal with the vouchers. It took me longer to get my check then eat. The staff had trouble understanding how process things at government rates. When a problem came up there was an excuse not a fix nor a reason given for all of the concerns.
On the plus side the facility was clean and newer. The food was adequate. Free parking but not ever close to entrance. Wi fi free. Nice view and easy to find.

The front desk was very helpful. Room very clean. Nice view. Traveling alone felt safe. Small pool. Free parking. Bed comfortable. Large bathroom. Not to bad of a drive to Norfolk International Airport. There were a couple of family reunions going on.

Room Tip: Stay on main level if traveling alone.

This is a beautiful hotel that won't cost you much money. It's a good option if you want to spend a couple of days going to VA Beach/OBX but don't want to pay the money to stay at the beach. The view was awesome, room was clean, the beds were really comfortable and the staff was super friendly. Would go back!

Another successful family reunion was had at this Hilton. We use this hotel for every other family reunion and we have always enjoyed our stay. Stay is friendly and helpful. We always feel welcome. My only complaint is that there isn't much to do in close vicinity to this hotel. Other than that, we have a ball as always.

Room Tip: Ask to stay on the side with the river view.

There is not much to do in Suffolk, but this hotel was great!
The staff were friendly and polite. In all the times my husband and I have stayed at a Hilton hotel, this was the first place that offered us the membership rewards package.
Room was huge, and very clean. The new SleepNumber beds were great! The room had a nice view and also had a fridge and microwave.
Pool area is a bit small, there is not a free breakfast (we at the restaurant; good food but pricey), and the shades do not close all the way, so our room had a lot of light letting in from the parking lot.

I want to let you know the rooms are very nice, set up well for business people, adequate internet connection and quiet. With that said, the other aspects of the hotel leave alot to be desired. 1) Pool area is extremely small and not more than 3 people can fit in whirlpool and can only swim laps in pool if 3 stokes are your limit 2) The room does not have a channel guide. When I called front desk about this, was told they no longer provide and to use the guide button on remote to search for stations (there are over 100 and how hard can it be to create and run off a list for each room). Last thing I want to do when I check into my room is spend 20 minutes identifying TV stations. 3) Ordered room service one night and was overcharged for food as the room service menu was not current with the resaurant prices, selection (called front desk again and they did adjust bill andsteaks are definitely not high quality) 4) The parking for the hotel is next to the hotel and you have to climb about 10 steps and use key card to get into hotel side entrance. (Not great for people who have trouble with stairs or when pouring down rain). 5) Was given a list of restaurants in the area but that was just what it was, a list. No map or idea how far any of the 50 restaurants listed are from the hotel.
Like I said, the room is great but the other aspects that make a hotel enjoyable (besides the room) need some help.

Room Tip: Not a large enough pool area for families with kids! Walking from parking lot to hotel is not set u...
