“An amazing business trveler's hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2009

I usually stay in DC when visiting, but this trip required an early morning flight from Dulles so I decided to stay at a nearby hotel. The website for Hotel Sierra was interesting and the price was very reasonable. When I got to Dulles, I called the hotel and the complimentary shuttle service (a handsome black SUV instead of a white van) arrived in a short time). Everyone at the hotel was pleasant and very helpful. Whoever designed this hotel must have been a business traveler. Everything a businessperson could possibly need has been anticipated. I was given a Studio King--a beautifully appointed room (comparable to or better than most 4-star hotels in DC). From the perfectly appointed kitchenette to the high-end draperies and furniture and incredible comfortable bed with six (6) king sized pillows. Granted, it was a slow weekend, but I paid only $81.00 a night (before tax). There's not only a complimentary business center, but a laundry facility, fitness room and a 24-hour mini-market that contained just about anything one would need. the only thing I was disappointed in was there was no bar offering cocktails, BUT there is a nice Bistro with beer and wine and a nice assortment of
hot, freshly-prepared meals. I can't say enough positive things about this hotel--it is a real find!!

We only stayed one night at the Hotel Sierra but we were really impressed. This was a little hidden gem near Dulles airport. I think we paid a little over $100 for a room. It was brand new and very nicely appointed. The room was a good size and the bed was comfortable. We had a really early flight out the next morning so we weren't able to take advantage of the breakfast. It looked impressive. I just checked availability for Thanksgiving and see the rates have gone up. I may rethink staying here for $179 but for $100 it was a steal.

Never have I stayed at a hotel that treated large groups so badly and had no problem doing it. The dirty looks we got just when we walked in the front door with the girls who had there uniforms on after a game was very disheartening. I never felt relaxed or was able to enjoy this beautiful hotel because I was always worried we would get kicked out for doing something wrong. The police was called to the hotel at least 2 times one day and 1 time another day and I never heard or saw anything that it was neccesary for. Please if you are traveling with any team or a large amount of kids stay somewhere else.

This hotel is so comfortable, clean, tastefully decorated and well appointed that we hated to leave.
Surprising amenities include fully outfitted kitchen, convenience shop in lobby to buy food for the kitchen, basketball court (basketballs can be checked out at front desk), outdoor grill to use during your stay, and outdoor fire pit with comfy seating area. Lounge area has bar and serves food, so you never really have to leave (because you really won't want to.)
The beds are very comfortable, with great linens and plenty of pillows. Shower pressure was great and the shower head was placed high enough that the over 6 footer didn't have to slouch to wash his hair.
Can't say enough about what a great place this is, ESPECIALLY FOR THE PRICE!

Found this hotel via google search as I wanted hotel near Dulles airport. What a find!! I had a car so staying away from city centre was an option, that said, the hotel is visible from the motorway and not hard to find. For the price this is the best hotel I have ever stayed in. And I have travelled around the world staying in many 4 and 5 star hotels. The service is impeccable including front reception being quick with every request and super efficient. Not really warm, fuzzy but so knowledgable about the area and basically anything you want. They extended my checkout time to 4pm when my flight was delayed-- no charge. They have a terrific breakfast and bar area and food from menu until 11pm. Full size room fridge, large spacious and tastefully decorated. I could go on and on about this place, fitness room, laundry, gorgeous property and sparkling clean. Too good to be true. Would come again if in the area.

A nice hotel, in terms of the rooms (they are actually suites more than rooms).

Only problem is, that this is sort of the middle of nowhere, unless you have a vehicle. No dining options within walking distance, except for a petrol station, and a Burger King next to it. However, to walk there, one needs to cross a busy highway with no pedestrian crossing obvious.

In close vicinity to Washington Dulles airport with regular shuttles. These take about 12 minutes in light traffic, and probably 15-20 at other times.

On-site restaurant has limited menu, though the hotel provides an on-site mini shop that has some basic drinks, snacks and microwaveable food. The rooms have microwaves.

Internet access is free for speeds up to 384kbps and higher speeds come at a cost. The low speed option works well for most things and I did not have a need to subscribe to the paid option.

To get anywhere, other than calling a taxi, get on the shuttle to the airport, from where you have multiple options.

Hotel Sierra is possibly the nicest "extended stay" in which I have ever stayed. I was tempted to whip out my camera in the lobby because the feel is so nice. The lobby is modern, but warm in taupes and brown wood. The hotel is huge, but the front desk is small and efficient in the quiet lobby.

The pictures I took of the room speak for themselves. At first, I thought I was the first person to stay in my room. A few things to notice: better-than-averagely stocked kitchen, kitchen table is counter height with a comfy seat, rain showerhead, outlets abound, plenty of light for a variety of tasks, and the living room flat screen is mounted so it can be rotated to be seen in the kitchen.

  • Liked — Modern decor, well designed room, free internet
  • Disliked — Nearest grocery store is 3 miles away
