Wonderful hotel in general. Provided all the essentials for a great stay. Terrific front desk service, room service and on time shuttle transportation not to mention the buffet breakfast. Congratulations on your great employee selection.
My family (me, wife, 2 small children) used the Hotel Sierra over the 4th of July weekend as our homebase to enjoy the sights of Washington D.C. over the holiday weekend. We were thoroughly impressed with this hotel.
We opted for a hotel in Virginia so we could have more space (a 1 bedroom suite) at a reasonable price. We also wanted to be closer to family-friendly restaurants and other conveniences we might need during our trip.
The distance from Washington proved to be no issue for us. We opted to drive into the city, and even on July 4th, one of the busiest days of the year, our door to door trip was maybe 35-40 minutes, very straightforward, and we parked for free on the street close to all the sights.
The hotel itself is still fairly new so is doesn't show the wear and tear of years of guests..a nice treat to be in something that still has a shine to it! The decor of the hotel was also a nice change of pace from the usual predictable decor of every other hotel I've ever been in. The Hotel Sierra has made every effort to design a hotel that at least makes you feel like you're in a boutique hotel.
Our room had ample space with a separate bedroom with king bed, a near full kitchen (full size fridge, microwave, sink, dishwasher, 2 burners, and dishes), and great HD flat screen televisions in both the living area and bedroom. And free high-speed wireless and wired internet access in the room was a nice touch.
With a 4 year old in tow, we made daily use of the pool area - very clean, and always a lifeguard on duty.
We also made daily use of the free breakfast buffet which included breads, fruit, cereal, a selection of hot items, and even made-to-order omelettes.
A few minor downsides to our stay...our bathroom did not include a full bathtub, only a large stand-up shower with a glass wall (i did appreciate a hotel without the standard dirty shower curtain!). Having no tub was a challenge with a 1 year old and 4 year old and this wasn't information you could find by looking on travel sites...but definitely not a deal-breaker for us anyway. Also, the iPod docking clock radio advertised on their website did not work in our room. We tried to get this swapped out but the day we asked the maintenance man was no on duty. We got by using cell phone alarms and again this was not a big deal for us.
Overall, we had a great long weekend stay at the Hotel Sierra and will definitely consider it again when visiting D.C. with the kids.
A local dining tip - check out Sweetwater Tavern nearby in Stirling. A great family-friendly brewpub with great food and even better beer (be sure to take home a growler of beer!).
Outstanding value for an airport suite hotel. Excellent facilties and services. Will stay there again
My husband and I stayed here on June 13 after a long transatlantic flight. We knew nothing about the hotel except for the reviews on Trip Advisor and we were extremely pleased with this modern and comfortable hotel. The rooms are very spacious and new......the bed was divine! There is a small kitchenette, and a sitting area with a large sofa, work desk and a super flat screen TV. The desk staff were very welcoming and helpful. There is free internet at the business center and a free breakfast buffet which offers Starbucks coffee and lots of healthy breakfast items. We used the free airport shuttle which had the nicest driver. The only negative....(minor): this hotel is next to nothing by highways. Don't count on walking down the street to an interesting restaurant or to do shopping because it is impossible without a car. Only problem we encountered was that our room was next to an ice machine that was incredibly noisy. I'm sure the desk would have moved us if we had asked, but we were too tired to move.
