“Stylish, clean, friendly, away from most DC traffic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2011

My husband and I were traveling through DC on our way back home. After spending a horrible night in a larger Alexandria hotel with poor customer service and broken room furniture, we were desperate to find somewhere new. We pulled in without a reservation and were greeted by Ricardo, who was sympathetic to our ordeal and helped us find a comfortable, affordable room in a packed hotel. The one bedroom suite was stylishly furnished with a nicely stocked kitchen. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the room very clean. The made to order omelette and other hot breakfast items are perfect for those who want a decent meal for a long day. We will definitely be returning to Hotel Sierra on our next trip and thank Ricardo for his kind and welcoming attitude.

The accomodations are very nice -- the rooms are exactly as shown in the pictures. However, keep in mind that the rooms do not have a refrigerator or a safe. Two items that we certainly missed.

The pool is nice, but very small with limited seating. I believe there are exactly 6 lounge chairs at the pool, 4 sitting chairs, 1 table and 2 large cocoon style chairs. For July 4th weekend, there was never an attempt to bring more chairs out to accomodate anyone.

The breakfast is nice, but extremely repitious after a few days.

Overall it's a nice place to stay and very clean. However, the issues mentioned above question whether or not I'd return to this hotel.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for choosing Hotel Sierra on your recent visit to the Dulles area. I apologize you were not totally pleased with your room. It sounds as though you were in a guestroom. We do have a studio suite that includes a kitchen with full size refrigerator.

The fourth of July weekend was very busy for us which also made our pool area very busy. We do have adequate pool furniture for the are, but there are times the pool is very busy.

When returning to the Dulles I hope this experience will not keep you from spending another night with us.

This hotel is very nice for a business hotel. I stayed here with my husband when he had meetings all week in Reston. We got a one bedroom suite which had a wonderful kitchen area.
Glad to have the refreg., and microwave, did not use anything else. Very good breakfast, had the made to order omelets, would be nice to add hard boil eggs to the menu lineup in the am, as well as the WSJ, and bottled water in the rooms. A tiny chocolate at night would be the crowning touches on this nice new hotel. Good value overall for what you get by far from other places. It was also very quiet, we stayed on the backside of the hotel. My husband did use the bar one night for a small dinner and a drink, nice to have that quick option there too. Would go back again, this is our second time at a Sierra Hotel, and it did not let us down!

Dear Valued Guest,

It is a pleasure to read that you are a repeat guest. Thank you for the nice comments regarding the hotel and amenities offered. I did read your suggestions regarding the newspaper and bottled water. While we don't have bottled water available in the rooms, it is available at the 24-hour market on-site.

I am delighted you found Hotel Sierra to be a good value and look forward to you staying with us again.

I got stuck at Dulles after 11 p.m. due to "weather" (really just think the airline didn't want to pay for hotel rooms due to missed connections, as the weather seemed fine). I always rely on TripAdvisor in picking places to stay and was not disappointed. The front desk clerk was very nice on the phone and when I checked in; because I had to return to Dulles for a rescheduled flight, he suggested that I pick up some things from the breakfast area before I left, though it wasn't officially open yet. The shuttle to and from the airport is convenient, but note that it stops running at 11 p.m. (I had to take a cab for $10 not including tip). The room was very spacious, bathroom was well stocked (no small bottles = less waste), bed was very comfortable. Didn't use the kitchenette though I can see the potential utility. If I ever have to stay near Dulles again, I will definitely be back!

Great hotel and staff. The rooms are like little apartments and are very clean and modern. The included breakfast is one of the best I've ever had at a hotel!

Our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teenagers) stayed at the Hotel Sierra for 8 nights in May 2011 for a family trip to DC. The Hotel Sierra offered all the amenities we wanted, within easy access to the DC area, for a very affordable price.
We checked in late, after midnight, on a Friday evening. We have had difficulties at other hotels with checking in late and not having our reserved room available. We were pleasantly surprised with the ease of check in and to find the room we reserved was the room we received. The staff was very nice and friendly!

There were many positives to this hotel. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. We stayed in a one bedroom suite with a king bed and pull out couch, which was plenty of room for our family. The kitchen with full fridge was a nice plus. It was also extremely quiet. We never heard planes or the people in the rooms near us. This was a welcome retreat from the crowds, chaos and traffic of DC.
This hotel was very affordable for the area, especially for the services provided. We found the best rate through the hotel website. The breakfast was great, with plenty of choices for our family. The omelets were a big hit, but we also enjoyed the bacon, muffins, granola/yogurt, bagels and coffee. We ate here for breakfast every day, and this saved us even more money to not have to buy breakfast for 2 teenagers.
The free wifi was very adequate to run our laptop and iPad during our stay.

We only had one problem during our stay. They only left 2 towels in our room, with 4 people staying in our room. I asked for several days for this problem to be solved, without a resolution. Finally, I spoke with a very respectful and polite man at the front desk, expressing my frustration. He assured me that this problem would be taken care of, and from that point on we have more towels than we needed in our room, along with some extra snacks left for us.
All in all, this was a very small problem. I appreciated the way they handled the situation and followed up with us. Problems will happen, but their handling of the situation says much about this hotel and staff.
I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again!

My fiance and I stayed at this hotel over the holiday season to visit with her family, it was a last minute booking that we found online literally the week before Christmas. The rates were excellent first of all, which made us think initially that the hotel would be so-so. Well we were in for a surprise.

When we arrived we were warmly greeted by a beautiful lobby/lounge area that was decorated very nicely for the holidays. Large flat-screens adorn the walls, a roaring fireplace, and a convenient little area for you to purchase goodies for your room/stay.

We booked the studio suite so it had a small (although complete with stove, sink, microwave, and all of the comforts of home) kitchen in it which was perfect for us, the couch was enormous and welcoming and the room overall was extremely quiet given it's proximity to the airport. Kudos to the builder for putting this hotel across from the airline flight paths and not overtop of them.

Pros:
The staff was friendly and professional, the rooms were clean, the bed was super comfy, complimentary breakfast was just right, iPod docking station was a nice touch, evening bistro was delicious & Complimentary airport shuttle service to and from Dulles in their Chevy suburban was a nice touch from the gregarious shuttle vans

Cons:
* Room/bathroom was a tad small
* Not close enough to the local restaurants/shops. You have to drive a whole five minutes down rt.28 in order to get to anything [sarcasm]
