“A Pleasant Surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2006

I have had very mixed experiences with Hampton Inns--some were horrible (New Orleans, some years ago) and some amazingly nice. Even the acceptable properties, in my past experience, had hard and uncomfortable beds and relatively poor-quality furnishings.

I was dismayed when I learned that my recent business travel had been booked at the Hampton Inn Dulles-Town Center, but it turned out that this property was one of the very best! Throughout my stay, I felt that I was in a much higher class of hotel: high-quality bedding, exceptional service, nice breakfast, great shower, functioning high-speed internet, large room, and more. Everything was clean and exceptionally comfortable. The airport shuttle worked well and the location was perfect for my suburban D.C. business meetings (although the hotel itself was a bit difficult to find--don't trust the Mapquest directions to this site!).

The price was average for the D.C. area, but the quality made this a great value. I'd stay here again, even if in the area for purely recreational pursuits.

  • Tips/Secrets — The metro stops are not close by, but you can take the complimentary shuttle to Dulles and then take the $3 express bus (5A) into D.C.--very simple and convenient!

I just got back from my trip (july 2-6) to Washington D.C. The reason we decided to chose the Hampton Inn in Sterling, Virginia was the price (79.00), which was good price for the area. It is a new hotel (think it opened in 2001). It is a very upscale Hampton, it seems more like a Hilton or Hilton Garden. The staff was always very helpful and willing to go out of their way to help you. They were all dressed in suites and the maids were dressed in a uniform too, which I found impressive. The breakfast was outstanding, not sure what people were talking about in earlier reviews, but it had a great variety and was always fresh and well stocked. THe rooms were extremly clean including the bathroom (it seemed like no one had ever used it). I am extremly picky when chosing a hotel and this hotel is very very clean. The pool and exercise areas were very nice. There is also lots of shopping and resturants nearby. If you are traveling to Washington D.C. this might not be the hotel for you. It is a 30 min drive to the METRO station, which was really stressful. It just seemed really far away from D.C. attractions. But if you are willing to drive this hotel is a real bargin. I would definatly stay here again. It was a wonderful experience.

I have stayed here a few times, and the place is average, however, they charge premium prices. A room on a Friday or Saturday will run you about $125 with all taxes. On my most recent trip, I found hairs, and nasal discharge on the sheets of my bed. They did not belong to me. I found the two items stated above when I woke up in the morning, so it was really to late to get a new room ,or get new sheets. I felt really disgusted, for the fact that I laid in this filthy bed for over 8 hours without knowing it until the morning.

They were doing construction when I last visited, which closed down 1 of their 2 elevators. I literally had to wait 10 minutes to catch an elevator to the lobby. Almost every time I stay there they have baseball teams staying there, young and old. I guess there is some kind of tournament being played nearby. By the way, they can get rather loud. I suggest asking the front desk person for a room far away from them. They hog up all the breakfast too, so get there early.

The room is average size. It includes a microwave, tv, iron, and a desk area. I think there is wireless too. Breakfast is included every morning which includes a lot of great items. You won't be dissapointed with the breakfast.

There is this one African-American lady who works at night. She usually comes in around 9 or 10 p.m and works throughout the night. Her title is the "night auditor". I have encountered her many times on different stays. She is one of the most rudest, and meanest people I know. If you ask her something, she will talk down to you, or just give you really short answers, like yes or no. If you ask her for untensils, she slams them down on the counter, and gives you a dirty look. She never smiles, or greets you. I think she has some personal issues going on, because she is like this for the last 3-4 years I have been staying here. Anyways, the rest of the staff is extremely nice and helpful. They are always smiling.

As a summary, I really don't think this place is worth over $100. As a tip, stay away from the night auditor. Get all your questions, utensils, and whatever else taken care of before 9 or 10 p.m because that is what time she reports to work. She is a realy mean lady. I wouldn't recommend this place to a friend.

This hotel has clean rooms, swimming pool, and a computer room with two high speed computers for guest use. Located in the Dulles Town Center, with a Restaurant across the street and two or three others within walking distance. A grocery store is in the Town Center also.

The hotel has a mediocre breakfast bar. Food is edible but not great. However they have various blends of excellent coffee available 24 hours a day.

Weekend prices are reasonable but the price of rooms jump way up during the week.

It is within five miles of a metro station to get into D.C. and the new Dulles Air and Space Museum is only about 5 miles away.

We stay here every time we visit our son in the D.C. area

This is a nice property and I would describe it as an upscale Hampton Inn if you are familiar with the chain. The high speed internet is free, they have a business center, and the free breakfast is above average for Hampton Inns.

The gym is a bit small and could use some more equipment. I'd rate it as average for Hampton Inn, but below Hilton / Westin / Hyatt standards.

The rooms are spacious and each time I have stayed with the property they have included a refrigerator, microwave, etc. The convienance store downstairs is open 24/7 and has snacks, etc.

The hotel is also located within walking distance from several restaurants and a strip mall with some shopping.
