“Gem of a place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

Sugar Tree Inn is one of the nicest B&Bs you'll ever find...! My friend and I had travelled from NJ to drive Skyline Drive in Virginia and then continue on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We hadn't booked the first night's accommodation, and Sugar Tree Inn was recommended in the guide book we were using. Fortunately, they had a room free and we were just so impressed with the beauty of the location, the tranquillity and character of the house, comfort of the room and kindness and helpfulness of the owners. We can't wait to go back!

My wife and I spent Valentines Day weekend at Sugartree. This was about our 8th visit and we were treated to very gracious hosts who truly went above and beyond this weekend. Saturday afternoon brought a surprise 5-6 inches of snow. Several guests had left the mountain top getaway and made their way back to the Inn. Jeff (Innkeeper) spent hours on his tractor plowing and treating the somewhat long and hilly driveway. Becky had tractor duty as well. They did a repeat performance on Sunday morning so people could safely leave this piece of heaven. Jeff and Becky still managed to serve a wonderful dinner on Saturday evening. And of course the breakfasts, as usual, were fantastic.
We would reccommend Sugartree to anyone who loves the mountains and peace and quiet.

We stayed in the Creek House. Secluded from the main building and a wonderful place for peace and quiet. Beds were comfortable. Got 4-6 inches of snow during our vacation and the staff ensured the roads were cleaned up so guests could leave if they chose too. Recommend this location for anyone wanting a quiet vacation spot.

We stayed at the Sugar Tree Inn for 2 nights and it was wonderful! The accomodations were so comfortable and we had everything we needed including a wood fireplace in our room. The food was delicious. We had dinner 2 nights and enjoyed the duck and trout one night and the chicken on the other night. Breakfast each morning was yummy and Becky's baked oatmeal was as good as everyone on here had said. Topped it with cranberries and apples one morning. Yum! We had an unexpected snowfall while we were there. It was beautiful and Jeff and Becky made sure we were all safely back at the lodge ( coming down the driveway is a little tricky) and also well fed and warm during the storm. The lodge itself is beautiful. We stayed in the Blue Ridge Room which was very nice and comfortable. Had a great deck facing the woods and mountains, but we were unable to use it due to the snow and cold. Looks like another trip is in order. Maybe during the Fall when we can enjoy the deck and hottub! Thank you both for a wonderful, much needed getaway. We will return soon!

We stayed here again, this time for Thanksgiving. The hosts offered a deal that included a Thanksgiving dinner. The stay was very relaxing and the hikes were great. The dinner was very nice. The place is convenient to St May's wilderness trail, which was nice with lots of river crossings. In the other direction is Spy Rock which was a great hike up from the fish hatchery. You can get to the top of the rock going around to the left.

Beyond paradise! We have lodged in the finest hotels and resorts around the world... and Sugar Tree Inn is one of the nicest of them all!

Actually, we've stayed here for something like 12 nights in one year!

I'm an author, speaker, and leader of hundreds... with tremendous responsibility. What I love about Sugar Tree the most, is the total reset I experience during each visit.

The innkeepers are kind and loving, uncommonly hospitable, and never smothering. The facilities are like something out of a Nicholas Sparks story... like a fairytale!

Staying here is more than a visit, it is a life experience! You'll see!

My husband and I were part of a larger hiking group that spent 3 nights at Sugar Tree. What a wonderful experience. The room was very comfortable including a fireplace and king bed that was very comfortable (we were in CrabTree Falls room). Service was excellent - food was excellent. Views off the front porch were great especially with a great glass of wine. Be prepared for a bit of a challenge in navigating the the drive to the inn especially if you have a large vehicle.

Room Tip: Crabtree Falls room was great but the entry to the room is next to the main entry for the inn/common...
