“Pleasant stop for an good mean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2014

Looking for a nice place for dinner while traveling and info in hotel recommended the Edelweiss just off I-81 in Staunton, VA. A nice rustic building, food was genuine, choice of draft beer excellent, good service and enjoyed the accordion music while we dined.
You will enjoy a meal there if you happen to be near Staunton.

“Little Germany”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2014

The German music on a Friday was an added bonus! The sampler platter was a nice way to taste everything at an affordable price!

“A long way from Germany”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2014

Nestled in the beautiful Shenandoah valley just outside of Staunton, Va is this quaint little German restaurant. It is as authentic as you can get on the inside and the flowers and views of the mountains make it a great place to come to. The food is just okay. I have to agree with the previous write up about the Sysco foods used in their entree selections. You can just taste the raw and unseasoned flair of food that has been processed rather than freshly made. You just can't fake a good schnitzel. The spetzel was okay but the green beans were right from the can. The Jaegerschnitzel was fairly soupy with a flavorless mushroom sauce acting as an ocean for a small island of fried pork. My expectations were just to high for a good piece of fresh pork that had been fried up with a good hearty sauce. You have to travel to Bavaria to get that. Wine and beer were good. Service was slow but congenial. Did not think we should have spent up to 2 hours for a meal and we took dessert to go so we could leave. He restaurant had maybe 4 tables with customers. Just not sure I can really recommend this place unless you are looking for a quaint place for lunch or dinner. You could do worse. The other reviews give them high marks so maybe this was just a one-off for them.

“We loved it. Delicious. But it is SYSCO food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2014

We loved it. Delicious. But it is SYSCO food. But you know what, they know how to make it taste fresh and homemade. The 16 Sysco food boxes were pilled in the back of the quaint house. The staff was super. The place is adorable. Easy to find, easy parking. Dessert strawberry cake wonderful. Chicken meal wonderful. Wish it was all really homemade. Maybe they buy local produce. That would be good for them to advertise. It was very busy and they sell out of certain dishes. Germany music is live. And I love the photos, cuz I lived in Germany for 4 years where I eat real homecooked german food. Aufweidersen.

“Watch for the signs, and then STOP HERE!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

Our second annual trip to Edelweiss did not disappoint!

My mother ordered a stuffed cabbage special. She is a light eater, and still somehow managed to eat nearly both large stuffed cabbages for lunch!

I ordered the same thing I did last year, the spinach pie, made from layers of thin crepes.

There are many small side dishes that come with the meal. Trust me, you don't leave hungry.

Overhead, German recordings of familiar music like "Oh, What a Night" played. Just as we were wrapping up, the in-person accordionist began his set.

My only suggestion to this restaurant is that they need more and larger signage on and off the highway. The signs pointing the way are easily missed. I've done it on both trips here. Also, the directions on their website are not specific enough. There should be exit numbers mentioned and more specifics.

It's too good of a place to take the chance of missing!
