The ambiance is the best part of this restaurant. The decor is inventive and definitely unlike what you'll find elsewhere in Staunton. Unfortunately, there's not much else to recommend it. The food was good, but it took over an hour to arrive -- when we were literally the only customers in the place at 7:30pm on a Friday. There's really no excuse for that. To cap it all off, the service was just bizarre. The server was almost aggressively attentive -- polite and friendly, but constantly up in our faces. He insisted on refilling our drinks when they were still 80% full -- so he was coming by about every four minutes, even after we told him that we were perfectly fine and he did not need to check in any more. It made it impossible to relax (entirely at odds with the beachy atmosphere) or to have a conversation. I don't even blame the server for this. He seems to have a neuroatypical disorder which likely makes repetitive actions comforting and social cues difficult to read. His managers, however, should have stepped in and let him know it was okay to leave us be for a while, particularly when it became clear that several members of our party were visibly uncomfortable. This was not nearly the experience I had hoped to have when trying a new restaurant downtown.
