I stayed at Staunton Choral Gardens July 3-7, 2005. It was a spur of the moment trip. I called on Saturday afternoon and would arrive less than 24 hours later. Most B&B’s I know would not take such late reservations, especially on a weekend, but the owner of Staunton Choral Gardens was gracious and accommodating.
When I arrived the owner took detail notes on my food likes and dislikes. Each morning featured a different breakfast that was special, delicious and filling – fresh fruit was plentiful. Though I usually ate out in the middle of the day, the TV lounge had a small frig, microwave and small dining table that I used each evening for my late meal. The guest room was nicely decorated and I slept soundly on the comfortable feather bed and pillows.
The best piece of advice the owner passed along was the convenience of the Staunton’s local trolley which runs in front of the B&B. I used it extensively as I wandered all over historic Staunton (I especially liked the Blackfriar’s Playhouse). When I wasn’t seeing the local sites, I was like Goldilocks as I sat and enjoyed every garden area on the B&B grounds, reading a book and listening to the church bells or clock tower chimes on the breeze (hence the name “Choral Gardens”).
As a single female traveler, I felt safe staying at Staunton Choral Gardens and in wandering around Staunton on my own. I found the owner (and indeed the people of Staunton) friendly and ready to share a word or two.
