“Good Stop!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

Was a little discouraged by the huge narrow enterance way that the hotel is on, but it was nicer than I expected.
A mile or so off the fwy , and really close to a bunch of places to eat.

Front desk was nice and introduced me to the hotel and told me about breakfast and everything.
WiFi was good in my room
Everything was nice neat and clean.
Couldent have asked for a better nights sleep.

A good stay!

The hotel just had a major makeover. It had been a microtel previously. Rooms were very clean and everything is like new. The negative is that the bathroom inparyiculasr the sink counter is small. We stayed there on a very windy evening and on the windy side of the motel. Consequently a cold air was leaking through the heater unit all night. I wound up stuffing towels etc in to stop the cold air from coming in. I did report it. Other than that it is a very nice room, lobby, and breakfast/area. The price was comparative when I used the waslkin coupon.

Room Tip: Check room including lights, recepticals, heater noise and faucets in which you will be staying befo...

This property recently updated from a Microtel to a Quality Inn has many surprises. Unless you head toward a resort you are unlikely to find some of the features that await you here.

First the location – ok – it’s behind a Lowes but not next to it – ABOVE it to be exact. The property is built on the side of the mountain so once you reach the top – you have quite a view of the valley. Remember it’s not Wintergreen (a resort in the area) but it is quite a vista to take in.

Being recently remodeled there are a lot of conveniences – like the door to the room has a magnetic door stop that holds the door open for you – automatic night light in the bathroom, usb wall outlets. And of course it was clean which is an absolute requirement. The bed was comfortable and while we had one of the smaller rooms it was quite functional and just right for our stay. The refrigerator / microwave also worked well as did the HVAC unit.

There is a complimentary breakfast (6 to 9 daily) with a good variety of items (make your own waffles, cereal, hot selections, yogurt, breads, etc.). A few whole grain additions would be a good balance to the selections.

The seating area is quite small – a leftover from the Microtel heritage– there is a large table with high stools and only three tables of 4. Some expansion of this area would be welcome.

The lobby is quite nicely remodeled with two computer stations available.

While it was off-season when we visited - there is a small outdoor pool area and a gazebo seating section when better weather is available.

As all of us who travel can agree – we’ve had our great and not so great experiences. For us this was a great value and a great stay.

I stayed here a couple of times when it was the Microtel. It has always been a nice property, but the renovation that Quality did is outstanding. There is much more space in the Lobby area, and the Breakfast that is offered is in a separate and spacious room. The rooms are nicely appointed, and the beds are nice and comfy. The views from the window seat can't be beaten. I will be back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the mountains.

Heard about the Quality Inn from the Virginia travel coupon books. Sounded good so we headed there. It was off the main road, on a hill and very well lit. Went in to see if rooms were available at the coupon price and there were! Staff was very nice and friendly! Got a quiet room away from the elevator with 2 queen beds (travelling with my brother). Room was very clean, beds very comfortable and great pillows! Lots of extras too - free Wi-Fi, frig, microwave, coffee maker, large flat screen TV, in-room safe, window seat and free coffee in lobby! Breakfast had a wide variety of items. Love the waffle maker! We were both very pleased with selection of items and the morning view was great! Great hilltop location! We were well rested and well fed to continue on our trip! Highly recommended!

I can't think of a better Quality Inn I've stayed in.

The renovation isn't merely a superficial facelift. If you're looking for the Four Season, go elsewhere, but if you're just looking for a good night's sleep, you'll enjoy this location.

PROS:
Efficient front desk.
Small, but well-lit room. Desk was suitable, internet was very fast. Beds were comfy, blankets had weight to them, bathrooms were small but water was hot. Flat-screen TV
Interior hallways.
Nice laundry room, business center, and fitness center (I didn't use any of these)
The internet is speedy.
On top of a hill and QUIET.
The parking lot is well lit.

CONS
Breakfast is standard fare, cold waffle maker, sugary stuff, etc.

My wife and I stayed here one Saturday night on the way driving home from visiting our daughter in North Carolina. While we have stayed many, many times at this hotel when it was a Microtel, this is our first stay since it did renovations and became a Quality Inn.
Check-in was slow because no one was manning the desk and we had to wait for someone to appear. Same was true on check out. The staff were all new folks (to us) and we noted that having no one manning the desk never happened when it was Microtel. So, service gets a 2.
The look of the hotel inside is *much* better/cleaner/fresher. In addition, they have added a nice large breakfast room, a stylish lounge area and computers and printers in a public space. So ambience gets a 4.0.
The room had many more outlets, as well as USB charging outlets and better lighting than before. So, room overall gets a 4. Unfortunately, the mattress was terrible and saggy. There is no way it was a new mattress, unless they bought the cheapest thing possible, Having a good night’s sleep on a decent mattress is absolutely my top priority for a hotel stay and I had requested a firm mattress. So, I gave the mattress a 2, lowering the room to a 3.
The breakfast the next morning was only fair. While it had warm things, the waffles were doughy and tasteless and the sausage, while tasty, was the thinnest patty we'd ever seen. The “cheese omelet” was folded egg around a Velveta core. Not too good. So breakfast was a 2 (for effort). The standard for what hotels in this class can do for breakfast is the Holiday Inn Express in Orange, VA. For more detail, see our review of that hotel.
We paid $69 non-refundable for a one queen bed room. Before the renovation/rebranding, we used to pay $52 (refundable) for the very same room, so in terms of value, we give this a 2.5.
Thus, overall, we’d give this hotel a 3.0, although it actually seems like a 2.5 and a less favorable rating than when it was a Microtel. While the Microtel was being renovated/rebranded, we stayed at the Mint Hill Days Inn instead. I have reviewed that hotel elsewhere on TripAdvisor.
