“Great but for.....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2014

weekend breakfast buffet eggs are inedible. If you could order from the menu, you would have a much better meal as the kitchen can produce good egg dishes, The hotel itself is fine - clean, not noisy, and the beds are comfortable. We had a room on the golf course side, so did not have the traffic noise that might occur on the highway side. The black-out curtain needed tweaking and if they had been about 4" longer, would have worked as black-outs.

I have a lot of trouble getting comfortable in hotel beds, but not this time. Hotel had very limited clothing drawer space, so not good for a long stay. Minifridge & microwave were in the room and the staff even helped out with some plates from the kitchen to re-heat leftovers. Did not use the pool, which has weird access - from the restaurant and the PM (pool mezzanine) that replaces the 2nd floor of the hotel - the elevator button is marked PM without explanation. Some architect thought that up - or it was on "Oops - how do they get to the pool?"

Room Tip: ask for golf course side. There are also connecting rooms if you have too many for a single room...

Thank you for your honest and candid feedback. While we are pleased that you found our beds to be comfortable, our rooms to be clean, and our staff to be accommodating. I am disappointed in ourselves that we didn’t make much of an impact on your experience at breakfast in a positive way. For this, I take full responsibility and apologize for our shortcomings. I am grateful that you still shared your experience as it can only serve to help strengthen our weaknesses and make us a better hotel. I do hope you will give us another chance on your next trip to Staunton.
Thank you,

Needed to escape over July 4th weekend from the city. Short term booking in a small town did not offer much, so went with a brand. Staff was seriously friendly; facility adequate, bed and amenities comfy. Two negatives: HVAC working but leaking into carpet, room keys deactivated for no reason (I worked in hotels for three decades, know it should not have happened). The friendly overnight security team had new keys in minutes. Question: how do they maintain a pool on the second floor?

Room Tip: We stayed by elevator for convenience but there was noise although a nice golf course view.

Dear BarGirl1957,
Thank you for sharing your review and your kind comments about the staff. Especially about Mervin and his quick response to your issue! I would however like to apologize for the issue you experienced with your room key deactivating and the AC unit. We hope this issue has not tarnished your view of our hotel as we would love the opportunity to welcome you again.

Spent two weeks here on business (home on weekends). Mainly because it was close to the place I was working.

Remote location, nothing close by. Nice country scenery.

Friendly front desk staff. Clean inviting lobby.

Restaurant on-site. Dinner menu limited and overpriced. Late arrival I had decided to eat in the restaurant. Disappointing Cobb Salad. Would not get it again. Good service from server.

I had breakfast the next day. Much better selection, good food and reasonable price.

Rooms clean. Satisfactory.

Big downside for me is the dim lighting in the rooms. Tough to do any work at night.

The deal breaker for me is the terrible WIFI in the hotel. I was on the 6th floor first visit & it was bad.

I was on the fourth floor second visit & it was terrible. I called the desk & they rebooted it worked a little better but still terribly slow.

Obviously other people had the same problem per the front desk person.

Poor WIFI reception would be a major factor on deciding to stay here again if I return.

Room Tip: Stay off the fourth floor if you need to use the internet.

I am not a big fan of chain or large hotels. I prefer to stay at small family owned inns, B&B's, or arm stays, however; A friend made the reservation for me so I was committed.
The hotel is a bit hard to locate but the pay off is a wonderful view of rolling hills and horse pasture with mountains in the far distance. If you are a jogger/walker, the road across from the hotel is Bells Lane and is an amazing 2 mile scenic country road with almost zero traffic. I can't recommend the jog enough!
Historic Downtown Staunton is a bit to far to walk to, however, if your staying at this property you got here by car so use it. Downtown is a must see.
What really made the hotel so wonderful for my family was one of the employees named Marisa. She was genuinely friendly (not something learned by corporate training), she knew EVERYTHING there was to do in Staunton and she made excellent recommendations for our vacation. Marisa just made us feel like we were staying with friends compared to just staying at a chain hotel.
If your planning to stay here make sure to seek Marisa out, walk every street in Downtown Staunton, and say hello to Dwayne at the Newtown Bakery.

Room Tip: the rooms facing the horse pasture have a wonderful view.

We stayed here 1 night in the way to DC. It was ok. The room was an average HI room. The hotel seemed a little out of the way. No restaurants close by. The pool looked good, but we weren't there long enough to use it.

Dear Tnpharmer,

Thank you so much for your review and candid feedback. I do hope when you have more time that you will explore Downtown Staunton. Staunton is a great place to visit. Staunton is blessed to feature a number of fantastic locally owned and operated food choices within a 5 mile radius of the hotel. Baltimore Magazine calls Staunton “one of the country's best-kept foodie secrets.” I hope that you will come back and see us again when you can use the pool.

Thank you,

The staff is friendly, helpful and very competent. Our room was "pet friendly" but you would never know another animal had been in there. No odor, not even the usual "motel smell." The lobby is inviting and spotless. The restaurant was very nice and the food good. Can't say enough about the excellent staff. During our reunion banquet, the manager offered to walk our dog at 7:30 so we could stay with the family.

Room Tip: The third floor is for pets, so if you don't want to be around them, make sure you ask for a roo...
