“A wonderful experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2009

Our ninth anniversary could not have been better. We stayed in the historic Inn and had dinner in the restaurant. Marvelous. Alan, the owner, makes sure everything is perfect. Our spacious suite (the Tyler) had two fireplaces and candles, champagne and chocolates waiting for our arrival. Our NYC apartment is smaller. I cannot praise this Inn enough. The meal that night in the intimate restaurant with a baby grand playing soothing music capped off our anniversary.

“Won't go again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2009

Lafayette Inn is a quaint place. The meals were on the pricier side which is okay if you get what you pay for, but we didn't. I started off with the Nathaniel Greene salad which was great. My husband started off with a tossed salad, not so great. The tossed salad was nothing but lettuce. No tomato, no cucumber, nothing, just lettuce. (It didn't help that it took the waitor 20 minutes to serve our salad.)

I ordered the Duckling. It was covered in a gravy and came with mashed potatoes, cooked cherries, and the vegetable of the day. Nothing, and I repeat nothing, was seasoned. It was ALL bland.

My husband ordered the Feather, Fur and Fin. This is a combination of chicken, steak and fish. The chicken and steak were good, but this is the first fish that either my husband or I have had that required a knife to cut into it. Yeah, it was that tough.

The best thing about our meal was the entertainment given to us by the couple sitting at the table beside us (they took about 20 minutes to decide what to eat.) But that is how close the tables are seated, we could have easily joined into their conversation.

Next time, we will skip Standardsville and eat in another city.

“Wonderful Resturant in the middle of Wine Country”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2009

Excellent dinner with a very helpfull staff, reservations are suggested, due to limited seating. Local vineyards are featured on the wine list (Stone Mountain is an excellent choice).
