“Clean, reasonably priced, good access to 95 & the Metro”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

We just returned from a short weekend (2 nights) in Springfield for a family event. We have stayed in a couple different Hampton Inn Hotels around the country and are always satisfied with the service and the facilities. This was no exception. We had a King room on the 5th floor. The rooms have a microwave, refrigerator and flatscreen tv. HBO and about 100 cable and local channels were included. Complimentary wired and wireless internet in the room and lobby. It was fast and easy to access. There was a small sofabed in the room, coffee table, plenty of drawer spaces and a spacious wardrobe to hang your clothes, if desired. The King bed was very firm and comfortable, but the pillows were soft. For some reason the blackout curtains were only half length, so while they did darken the room, it was not as efficient as it could have been. Maybe 75% effective. The AC is the wall unit type that cooled the room quite nicely. We declined housekeeping for the two nights so I can't comment directly, but the room was spotless when we arrived.

There were two design quirks to the bathroom. The granite countertop on the sink extends over the toilet to increase counter space. Well it is very deep so it extends a couple inches forward over the tank. It forces the lid to lean forward away from 90 degrees towards closing. While the lid remained in that position with no problem, the toilet seat would not, which meant it had to be held open when necessary. The second design flaw was in the shower. The built in soap dishes are in the center of the wall and they are not deep enough and they slope down. They do this because they protrude too far into the tub. So anythng you attempt to place on them falls off very quickly. Why these were not placed in the corners, totally out of the way is beyond me. The room, carpet, bathroom and furniture were all very clean, as were the common areas. We heard no noise in our room from other rooms or outside. The parking lot was well lit and safe.

The hotel was fully booked when we were there but we experienced only a single issue, that the seating for the complimentary breakfast was inadequate but it did not affect our satisfaction in the least. We simply ate in our room. Breakfast was darn good. Available were: blueberry muffins, yogurt, light yogurt, apples, bananas, mixed fruit (grapes, melons, strawberries), real oatmeal, make it yourself waffles, scrambled eggs, bagels, fried potatoes, omelettes. Plenty of everything.

The front desk was helpful and informative. They gave us directions to the Franco Springfield Metro station. It was literally 5 min away, super easy to get there and the parking garage was free on Saturday evening. The hotel runs a free shuttle to the station but it stops at 10pm, way too early for a Saturday in DC. The trip to the White House was about 35 min. The Blue Line also stops at Arlington and the Pentagon. There were a lot of homeless around the McPherson Square station; no one approached us, but my wife said if she was alone, she might have been uncomfortable. This was approximately 9:30pm.

There are many food options around, but most close by 10pm, so if you are looking for Asian or Italian food, be aware. We ordered from an Pizza place we found in the guide provided by the hotel and the food was terrible. Their idea of Spaghetti w/meat sauce was to slice up some meatballs and mix it in. The portions were also skimpy. There is a mall under construction across the highway, Target, JC Penney and Macy's were open, we also passed a Barnes and Noble, Staples and Home Depot on the way to the train station.

This is a very nice hotel at a great price point.

I have never had such a poor experience with a Hampton Inn as I have this one. I stayed here with a group of high school seniors and they were treated as though they were elementary students. They consistently have a difficult time getting our reservations correct even though we make them 6 months in advance (overbooking is an issue).
Bathrooms are small, headboard shakes when there is movement in the next room.
It is convenient to the interstate and DC but not much in the way of eating establishments nearby. The mall across the street has been gutted so not much there.

We are sorry we were not able to provide you with a better quality of service. This is not typical of our usual Hamptonality and welcoming staff, and we are always looking for ways to improve our customer experience. Your satisfaction is very important to us and we are all about Satisfaction Guaranteed and we try hard to make sure all of our guests have a great stay. Again, we apologize for all of the inconveniences you and your group encountered and we hope you will come back and stay with us again.

You can't beat the value this hotel offers. Friendly staff, great location and very affordable. Lots of great restaurants within a half mile if you want to venture out. If seeing Washington or simply a stop over, this Hampton Inn is a great find for the discriminating traveler on a budget.

Front desk is very knowledgeable. Very Clean room!

Breakfast area needs to be larger, it was almost impossible to get anything with the lack of space and abundance of people trying to get there "free food"

We stayed 4 nights. Rooms are well furnished and clean. small bathrooms but not unusably so. Good free breakfasts including fresh fruits and a variety of hot items. They supply a free shuttle to the train station making it a very convenient location for visiting DC and much cheaper than downtown hotels. There is also a happy hour reception on some days which unfortunately we didn't have time to attend .The only negative was the very loud fan on the airconditioning .
