On our avoiding-the-interstate trip to Burlington, NC, we stopped at Mexico Viejo Grill on a busy Friday night in September. From Richmond, Va., it's a convenient place to stop for a meal.
The restaurant was crowded, but we were seated at a booth right away. Chips and salsa came; the red salsa and the white both were good.
We shared a delicious appetizer of jalapeno peppers stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon. It was served on a bed of lettuce with more cheese for dipping. One of us had a supreme chicken burrito and the other had a taco salad with ground beef. The burrito was very good, nothing special; the salad was OK. It was small, which was fine, but the taco shell was not too good and the filling was just fair.
There was a roving guitarist, his music was a bit loud, but a friendly man. He stopped and played a song for us.
Service was OK, not too prompt, but like I said, it was a busy time. The restaurant is a family place. Lots of tables full of multi-generational families. The restaurant is in a strip shopping center and is right on the road into North Carolina. Parking was easy.
