I could not have asked for a more restful and beautiful spot to relax than the Claiborne House. I traveled to VA to meet up with friends for a few days and decompress from my business. The B&B sits on a lovely small hill on a tree lined historic residential street overlooking the charming town of Rocky Mount. The huge front porch with wicker furniture harkens back to days when people sat outside and chatted with their neighbors and friends. I spent time there enjoying the quiet and peacefulness in the cool evenings, watching the birds and visiting with my friends and other guests. I was also able to access the inn's free WiFi from the porch so I could stay in touch with my business! We walked the short way to the Red Clay restaurant for dinner one night and it was great! We then walked a block to Edible Vibe to listen to some music and have a coffee and pastry. Yum! Such great places to eat in this gem of a town.

Shellie and Tony are the BEST B&B hosts! They are spot on with all kinds of recommendations for sites to visit and places to eat but are never intrusive. Shellie has a wealth of knowledge about all things Virginia and Tony's quick wit and humor were a treat. Their daughters will share some authentic fiddle music, if you ask. The inn is a large house and very quiet. I'd like to check out the separate Wash House Cottage on my next visit. You can find recreational opportunities, music venues, and history here in the area and come back to tranquility by Tony's landscaped ponds and gardens.

My large and lovingly decorated room had everything that you need and more to make a stay comfortable. Breakfast each morning was made with fresh ingredients and was delicious, beautifully presented, and abundant. Shellie makes perfect omelets! In the afternoon, there was the tastiest Southern pecan cake set out in the dining room with iced tea. Complimentary sodas, filtered chilled water, coffee, and tea were also available in the dining room. Why would I stay anywhere else? I highly recommend The Claiborne House as the place to stay near the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Crooked Road Music Trail!!!

“Special Time”

I took my mom to the Clairborne house for her birthday and we had a very special time together. Upon arriving, we found a special birthday card for mom and complimentary chocolates. A beautiful strawberry cake was in the dining room. She felt honored. The room was clean and the family was helpful. During breakfast we were blessed with special live violin music honoring my mom's birthday :)

We spent three nights at the Claiborne House and it was an excellent choice. We used it as our vacation base and its location put us in easy reach of everything we wanted to see. We sat next to their pond and watched the goldfish, read in the evenings sitting on the porch, and relaxed in the sitting parlor. Our room was clean and comfortable. We could see the garden from our room's window. The three unique breakfasts we were served were marvelous.

Claiborne House Bed and Breakfast totally delighted us. We enjoyed the privacy and quiet of the charming Wash Room Cottage. In the evenings we hung out by the pond. Tony and Shellie have thoughtfully lighted the whole area with lanterns. What a pleasure to be able to relax outside after returning for the evening.

They provide delicious and varied breakfasts that are served elegantly.

Both are helpful and friendly. Shellie's recommendations worked out very well for us -- she hit each thing to do right on.

This is one place I hope we find a way to return to. Everything about our stay ws a pleasure.

My sister, brother and I needed a convenient, comfortable and relaxing place for our families to stay during a recent trip to Franklin County. The Claiborne House fit the bill on all counts and exceeded our expectations. The rooms were comfortable and well appointed with interesting antiques throughout. The breakfasts were filling and delicious. The Claiborne House was just what we were looking for to serve as a focus point of our "family reunion." The personal attention from Shellie and Tony was appreciated and we were even serenaded by the girls on their fiddles. The location is convenient to Roanoke and to the Crooked Trail. Highly recommend the Edible Vibe (within a block of the House) for any meal. The Claiborne House is a real treat!!!
