“The place to see movies you might miss...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2014

...if you only go to the local cineplexes. Foreign movies, critical treasures that aren't picked up by the big guys, but they also show popular films that kids can see elsewhere. My only criticism is that the projector bulbs are not bright enough! Sometimes the picture is so dark that you think the director intended it to be that way, but when seeing it again (e.g. "Atonement", "Philomena") on DVD or in another theater, you realize it's much brighter and you can see the action better. Otherwise, Thanks for being here, Grandin!

“Romantic evening”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2014

So much can be done as a couple wanting to just have a simple romantic night in this area. A nice movie in a quaint theatre...a safe and quick stroll down the street and then grab a coffee, or a pastry and just feel like you are on your own...peaceful and eclectic.

“Beautiful, classic movie theater”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2014

I have visited the Grandin theater for over 20 years. It's beautiful on the outside, and amazing on the inside. Cheap prices and good service. Popcorn and old movie theaters. The only downside is they usually have older movies. However, I would recommend everyone at least see 1 movie here.

“Very special with carefully selected films”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2014

I'm not sure who picks the films at this theater but they do a great job making me happy. You can always count on the quality if they are shown at the Grandin. Going to this movie theater is an experience in itself, from buying the tickets from a velvet curtained ticket booth to sitting in a large auditorium resembling a castle. It is a real treat and beloved by the Roanoke community. By the way, the snack bar is good and very reasonable. Occasionally there are home made treats in addition to great popcorn and the standard chocolate fare. You can even get hot tea! Some of the movies are upstairs so if you are in a wheel chair you might phone first to see which screen is showing your movie.

“My favorite theater, anywhere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

This little gem of a theater has been in almost constant service since the 1930s. It's now a community-supported non-profit showing alternative, independent, and mainstream films. It's truly a crown jewel in Roanoke and the Grandin Court neighborhood, and I make it a point to visit when I'm home visiting my parents. Hint - have dinner at Gracie's pizza next door before your movie!
