My parents live in Roanoke and this restaurant has long been their choice for special meals. For years, we have had a tradition of going for the breakfast buffet the morning after Thanksgiving. I doubt we will do it again because the last several times, it has not been as good as in the past. This Friday I was extremely disapointed in the experience, both food and service. The buffet itself no longer has much to offer someone who does not like eggs--no pancakes, waffles, French toast, apples--all of whih they had in the past. The variety of baked goods is also less and the muffins and scones I had were very dry and not that tasty.Service was surly. We were seated near the area where dirty dishes are piled. When I asked if we could be away from that, the maitre d acted annoyed and said we'd have to wait at least 20 min., so we took the bad table. The waitress was also surly. She scowled when I stopped her from removing the plate of another in our party who was back at the buffet because I was not sure if she was finished with the plate. And she also acted as if I was asking too much when I wanted more hot water for my tea pot. The whole experience was not up to the high standards of food and service that we always used to associate with the Hotel Roaoke, the grand historic hotel in the town.
