Owner description: Jefferson Center is a nonprofit organization that enriches and educates diverse Western Virginia communities by producing high quality performing arts programs, by providing long and short term rental space for community partners and individuals, and by providing educational outreach.Built in 1924, the Jefferson Center's historic facility originally served the community as Jefferson Senior High School. “Another Winner in Pirates”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

Opera Roanoke had another winner in Pirates of Penzance. We have attended many concerts and other shows at the Jeff Center. David Wiley and the Roanoke Symphony often play there. Maestro Wiley has transformed the orchestra into world class performers

We are so pleased that you enjoyed Pirates and have had the opportunity to experience the wonderful music of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra inside historic Shaftman Performance Hall. Hard to believe that hall was once a high school auditorium in the 1920's! Jefferson Center is proud to honor its mission as a non-profit arts venue and serve as this community's hub for world class art!

“Intimate atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

My husband and I usually try to attend a concert here at least once a year. There isn't a bad seat in the house and the atmosphere is very intimate. The musicians they get are always top notch and we are always impressed. A must do if you are fortunate enough to get tickets to an event.

Thank you for the kind words. Jefferson Center's Artistic Director has been programming our season series inside historic Shaftman Performance Hall for more than a decade and we'll pass along your sentiments to him directly. We'll be releasing next season's lineup soon, so keep up with us for more world class art!

“Repurposed high school = intimate performance venue”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

Arguably Roanoke's "smallest" place for a big event. Attractively renovated historic high school has multiple spaces for non-profits, special events but is most known for shows, including a broad range of performances: jazz music, "big names" like Bryan Adams, Roanoke Symphony and opera performances, unusual acts. We prefer seating in the center of the balcony for events as some other seats have obscured views. Arrive early for best parking, which can be complex but is free (and usually well directed during sold out events).

Thank you for supporting your local non-profit arts venue. Center balcony is certainly a fantastic seat to enjoy any act.... now the secrets out! We're pleased that you have enjoyed your time at Jefferson Center and appreciate all the other branches of our mission, including our tenant space for 20+ additional non-profits and locally owned businesses.
