“A childhood favorite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

I grew up in Roanoke, and spent my entire childhood making visits to the top of Mill Mountain to visit both the Mill Mountain Zoo and the Mill Mountain Star. While on our honeymoon, my new bride and I visited my childhood hometown, and our first stop (after checking into the Black Lantern Inn Bed & Breakfast - see my review!) was the Star! It had been 26 years since I'd been "home", and the star itself was in great shape, but the surrounding park was a peasant surprise. The remodeled (to me, anyway) overlook was spacious andprovided an outstanding view of the Valley! THe downtown skyline has changed a bit, but was still a blast from the past! And we had fun capturing ourselves on the webcam on the Star's website!

“Everyone Should Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

Anyone who lives in or visits Roanoke, the Star City, must take a few minutes to travel up Mill Mountain to visit the star. Best time is dusk. Plan on staying about 45 minutes. The pint size zoo has limited hours but it packs a nice punch. Make sure you see Bo the Wolverine.

“Great view!”

A must-see in Roanoke. On a clear day, the view is forever and awesome. Go back at night to see the city lights.

“A Must See”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

If you come to Roanoke, you wasted your trip if you don't make the drive up to see the Star. The view in incredible and at night it's absolutely magical. Be sure to get there before 11PM though...that's when it closes. Also, lots of good trails around there if you want to take a stroll, hike, run through the woods.
