“Small but interesting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

I enjoy visiting museums, this one in particular has a very interesting collection about railroad history of Virginia, including lots of maps, information, pictures and real locomotives in the main patio. The building itself is at an Old Train Station so you have the real feeling of the trains and surroundings.

“If you like old trains and cars then this is the place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

This is worth a visit anytime you are in Roanoke, VA. The rail yard has plenty of old locomotives and rail cars and equipment to keep any train buff happy. The museum inside has many old and antique cars for you car buffs too. It's a great place to spend a nice afternoon with the family or solo to wander through, on, and around all this old equipment. You can then go to one of the great restaurants and city center attractions a few blocks away including the farmers market and all the shops and stores and great restaurants.

“Va. Transportation Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

If you love trains, don't miss this museum! There's lots of historical photos and railroad items. Kids are encouraged to interact. There are model trains inside and a real one outside. You can walk thru the caboose. There is also a small outdoor play area. It is a great time for adults and children. Allow 1-2 hours to explore. The main focus is on trains, but there are some old vehicles.
