“would not stay here again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

Staff was very friendly and helpful, but between the stained comforter, the dead bug in the sleeping area and the live one in the bathroom, we would have to be desparate to stay here again. Also, shower head would be perfect for someone 4' or shorter, for those of us that are 6', it was a challenge. Our friends were more satisfied with their room, but then he wanted to stay at the motorcycle campground that provided public showers.

Room Tip: We spent the next night at a comfort inn and were very pleased. we usually stay at the holiday inn e...

Thank you for your kind words for our staff. I'm happy you found them friendly and helpful. In fact I'm sure they would have changed rooms for you if you explained you weren't happy with their assignment. I hope you notified them about the comforter so that we could address the issue and change it out. However, I'm sure our seasoned housekeeping staff will catch it if you didn't. Insects this time of year are constantly seeking warmer environments and can sneak in through the smallest places. Our rooms are routinely inspected and treated by one of Roanoke's best professional exterminators who will respond promptly should some problem arise between visits. By the way, speaking of motorcycles, it is a great time of year for touring, and we are only 2 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway.

My husband & I are from Pilot, VA. Last week we had traveled to Floyd to watch some races & w/out our GPS got turned around & ended up at the bottom of a mountain in Roanoke, completely the opposite direction we needed to go. We drove & happened upon a Waffle House for breakfast & were told the hotel next door was a decent one. We were so tired & went next door to the hotel. A lovely young lady greeted us at 3 a.m. and after hearing our story of wrong direction told us she was sure we would be very comfortable there. We inquired about cleanliness and safety. She told us the housekeeping staff had been there for many years & the rooms were kept in top shape. She showed us the signs showing they have 24 hour survelleance cameras & said there was rarely ever trouble there & they were family owned in business since the 50's!!!!! She told us there would be a light continental bfkst starting at 6 am. She gave us shampoo, razors, toothepaste& even a comb for the two hairs on my husbands head ;). We were only missing a toothbrush...not so bad. She offered us the wife password which we didn't need but were pleased to see how updated they were with wifi & many cable channels & free hbo. We had a wonderful rest, very comfy beds and pillows, fresh clean smelling room and everything we needed. Next time we are lost in Roanoke we know where to go. Thank you to the nice lady on night shift and Colony House for making us feel safe and comfortable.

Room Tip: We were told the front side has 24 hour camera surveillance, made my husband feel good to know our v...

So sorry you were lost and so far out of your way. That is such an upsetting situation especially at night. Thank you for finding Colony House and all your compliments. We are proud of all our people and will pass on your kind comments. As a family owned business, we try to treat our guests as family and I'm happy we were able to accomplish this. We look forward to having you with us on your next visit to the Roanoke Valley.

Well im sure i could have stayed here in 1983 and it would have been nice but the rooms have taken abuse in 30 years of service with no updates. Tv picture quality was terrible and a vcr in the room, i mean really a vcr? Time for some flat screens i mean im surprised they even have cable. Good location and close to restaurants with friendly service is about all they have going for them, and a pool. Dont let them fool you with a fitness center its a treadmill and exercise bike. Overall id say pay the extra 10-20$ for a nicer hotel.

As our website states we are a “Quaint step back in time with modern conveniences.” The VCRs are just a fun item. Truthfully, DVDs are becoming passé and that is why we provide free WIFI for streaming video. Thank you for the compliments about our location and friendly staff but you forgot to mention the room’s large attractive armoire complete with a small refrigerator and microwave, just some of the many upgrades added over the years. Pay more if you wish, but our goal is to provide spacious, clean, comfortable accommodations at a reasonable price.

We were here for two weeks for a visit and the staff could not have been nicer to us or more helpful. Our room was more than comfortable. Although the hotel has some age the room was exceptionally clean and everything worked wonderfully. The location is exceptional and is about in the center of everything. Easy for us to get anywhere we wanted to go in the valley. Because the rate was so reasonable we were able to do some extra things while we were here. WE will definately stay here the next time we are in Roanoke. Thank you Colony House.

I prefer independent motels. But it turns out that this hotel is associated with Hampton Inns. Room 437 is shabby. The tub barely drains. The mirror has chips in it. The AC unit is incredibly loud and blows the drape way out into the room. The TV picture quality is so bad, it wasn't worth it to turn on the TV. The bed was very uncomfortable and very caved in on the right side. You have to request shampoo and other toiletries at the desk. The rates are no longer the cheapest in town. If there are rooms available at the econolodge Civic Center or the Super 8, I'd say to stay there, rather than here. The location is very good, though. The "busy" road quiets way down after 8:30 pm. Several restaurants are right next to it, and there's a K-Mart across the street.

Colony House Motor Lodge is independent and not associated with any other hotels or motels which helps us maintain our very reasonable rate structure. Management appreciates feedback on our facilities and follows up on all complaints. Thank you for highlighting our excellent location which affords easy access to many attraction in the Roanoke Valley.

My laundry was torn in their dryer. There were holes in the sheets and cover. Staff is not helping out, didn't solve our problems. They even promised to call us afterwards to solve problems but never called. If the manager is away and there is a problem, the manager is not reachable, staff is not able or allowed to solve problems. Place needs an upgrade and better service. Mattress wasn't comfortable. There are probably much better places to stay. Expensive for what you get.

Room Tip: Take a bed and breakfast instead of a motel in this town

As a family owned small business, our front desk personnel function in many capacities and are our onsite managers when the general manager is off site. Resolving guest's issues are a priority, and we are sorry that you feel your laundry complaint was not handled to your satisfaction. Inspection of the guest laundry facility has revealed no deficiencies. New linens were purchased in May and have been in service. All our housekeeping staff has been with us for years and are frequently complimented on the care of our rooms.

Neat clean and quiet, I stayed here on a Sunday night, got a great nights rest at a reasonable price and won't look anywhere else the next time I'm in Roanoke. The Motel sits on a busy road in the City but I never heard a so much as car door close.

Welcomed at a late hour without a reservation by Ed and shared a few laughs with the nice Lady behind the desk in the morning who had worked there as her very first job and then returned when her children went to college.

Nothing fancy but eminently functional the real value in this inn comes from the warmth of it's people.
