We've stayed here before- the rooms are clean- though some corners in the bath room area could use a scrubbing!. The staff is very helpful, polite and considerate. This location is very convenient to downtown Roanoke. We noticed this visit that the milk in the fridge that is in the free breakfast area was out dated. When we asked for a container with a fresh date, the person working that day- while she was going to get a fresh milk, said she was trying to get rid of the out dated ones. " You can drink the milk up to three days after the date" she says. Well, that may be, says I, but the stamp clearly says use by.... Just makes me wonder what other short cuts in the food area the staff is taking.

I'm a flight attendant so I've stayed in different hotels both in the U.S. and International and I have to say this is one of the best hotel I've stayed in. Friendly service, interior decore was very cozy and imaginative, has delicious complimentary breakfast, the room was very homey. I really enjoyed staying here.

- No dresser in the second bedroom.

We rented a two bedroom two bath suite for eight days. We stay here each time we take an extended trip to Roanoke. As far as I know this is the only hotel offering such a suite in the area. And even without competition for that market they run a fine hotel.
The rooms are comfortable and ample.

One feature I have not seen elsewhere is overhead lights over each bed as well as the kitchen table. Perfect for reading in bed or the newspaper during breakfast. The overhead lights have a separate wall switch. These lights are in addition to end table lights with bright bulbs on both sides of each bed and the living room. Much appreciated. I’ve posted a picture of the bedroom lights.


The breakfasts offer waffles, cereal in individual boxes, muffins, toast, pastries, yogurt and more. Our favorite breakfast was their fluffy scrambled eggs which actually taste freshly made, not the dull scrambled eggs we found at every other stop on our trip.

Breakfast officially starts at 6:30 AM. However we learned that the friendly efficient breakfast lady strives to make breakfast ready before 6:00 AM. So each day we arrived about 5:50 and found ourselves with the complete spread available and no one else in the breakfast area.

We prefer to eat on the large kitchen table in our rooms so we bring two trays and load up on several cups of coffee, eggs, toast, muffins, juice, etc etc, plus the current free USA Today and head back to our rooms.

Delicious hot chocolate and cappuccino are available 24 hours a day.

The Manger’s Reception held once a week with good hot food was a nice touch.

Housekeeping supplies are available for the taking in the Pantry which unlocks with the room key. They trust you to return your soiled towels and pickup whatever fresh towels, trash bags, soap, shampoo, and other necessities you require.

Everyone on the staff was friendly and helpful. Of special note is the Laundryman, Charles, who goes out of his way to be helpful and get you what you need. He saw us carrying trash towards the disposal site and offered to take it for us. On another occasion he noticed that we came away from the Pantry empty-handed and found towels for us, opening up a new package because the others were being washed.

The hotel is within walking distance of a good restaurant and just blocks from the large Valley View Mall. Conveniently located near the airport and the expressway. Unlike other reviewers my GPS led us directly to the hotel from the highway.

For a family or two couples travelling together, the Mainstay Suites is perfect.

We have stayed at this facility for a couple of years now. Curtis always makes us feel special as she greets us with a smile and cheerful disposition. She is always willing to help in any way.

This past visit, I left my purse in the breakfast area without realizing it. Soon after we returned to our room, Amanda called from the front desk saying that she had found it. What honesty and sincere joy she showed in returning it to me!

We are grateful for quality employees at this hotel. We will return to visit in the future.
