I just spent two nights in the Black Lantern Inn with my wife. We just wanted a quick get-away, and made our reservations at the last minute. We got lucky. It was one of the best places I have ever stayed. The room was spotless and comfortable. The host was friendly and outgoing, but not to the point of being creepy or intrusive, which is a problem sometimes at a B&B. For those of you that want a little extra privacy, book the Skyline room. It is on a floor by itself, and event has it's own dining area so you can eat your breakfast alone if you want. And about breakfast, it was great. It tasted good and there was plenty of it. What a way to start the day.

One word of caution - Listen when they tell you how to get to the inn. Their parking is in the back, and you have to drive through an alley to get to it. Now, if you live someplace like Richmond that has parking in alleys, you know it kind be scary. Not the case here. Their lot is clearly separated from the alley, it is well lit at night, and there is plenty of room for all of their guests to park. The alley itself is a bit of a mess. The city has been doing some work to it, and they have not finished yet. But do not let it deter you. It may be a little bumpy, and your car may get a little dirty, but it is perfectly safe, even for my sedan, and this inn is well worth the trip.

Room Tip: Skyline room has a floor to itself and a dining area, so you can either have a private breakfast, or...

I was looking for an overnight in Roanoke with a special interest in not having to fight the crowds for July 4th activities. Found the Black Lantern and it certainly fit the bill. I knew I made the right choice when fresh baked chocolate chip cookies were waiting for us.The restored home shines with pride and reviewing the photo album and talking with Co-ower Ron helps you appreciate all the work and special touches. Ron is knowledgable about the area and made recommendations for dinner spots for us to consider. Watching the fireworks from the rocking chairs on the front porch [beer in hand] was wonderful. Our room was lovely with a jetted tub and one of most comfortable beds we have ever slept in. Breakfast, served by Ron and Claire, was a bit overwhelming. Egg casserole, pancakes, potatoe pancakes, sausauge were preceded by yogurt, fruit and granola. We could have shared a plate the portions so bountiful. It was great to experience a "grand old house" from back in the day with all the modern amenities. You'll not miss when you choose the Black Lantern for an overnight or extended vacation.

Sadly we had only booked fro one night here on a tour from England driving round the Southern states. We just didn't want to leave! The old house has been very tastefully renovated with close attention to detail, and the modern interior done by the owners is state of the art. Ron is a truly wonderful host.. superb breakfast, even providing for my gluten free needs. He drove us to a restaurant in the evening We really enjoyed our drinks and talks with him on the porch, watching the antics of his very well cared for squirrels and birds. Sleeping was fantastic, beautiful room, sheer luxury bedding. Waking up to the wonderful breakfast served, again with taste, in a lovely room.
Roanoke is a very good location to tour from, Ron got directions for us. He even charged up my electronic cigarette!! W could not recommend it more highly deserves 6 stars.

Room Tip: All the rooms are absolutely superb, beautifully fitted with every amenity. Ron gives good advice on...

This tastefully decorated inn is a definite if you are in the Roanoke area. Centrally located to major attractions. The rooms are beautiful with luxurious bedding and top of the line sheets. This is an older home which has been restored by Ron, one of the owners. They offer bikes should you choose to ride on the Greenway or just explore around town. The breakfasts were
to die for. When comparing their prices to the local hotels, they were very compatible and even less expensive than some. Claire and Ron went out of their way to make us feel at home.
Would highly recommend!!!

Room Tip: Don't miss this little gem! Worth a visit.

I stayed here recently after a long day on the road on my way back to Toronto.
The Inn is a beautifully restored home with lots of modern upscale amenities. I stayed in
the Tiger Eye room which is nicely decorated with a big comfortable bed with high end
sheets. I slept like a rock. Even the closet was beautifully finished wtih cedar wood.
Ron took great pride in the restoration - and he should, its a really nice place that is
decorated with a designers touch.
His hospitality was terrific - he recommended places to eat and how to get back on the
Blue Ridge Parkway. The best was the breakfast he prepared - a feast of eggs, potato
pancakes, sausages, juice and great coffee.
A great place in a really unique town.

We stayed at the Black Lantern Inn on our way to a wedding in Mississippi and discovered a wonderful, modern, charming inn. The hosts, Ron and Claire, were fanastic. They greeted us when we arrived, helped us store our bikes and carried our luggage to the top floor. The skyline room was fantastic - a top floor, tastefully decorated room with a great queen-sized bed, modern bathroom, lush towels and bathrobes. Ron makes great chocolate chip cookies. He suggested a great place to eat, less than a mile from the inn - Wildflour Market and Bakery Cafe. I told him I was gluten sensitive and he made fantastic gluten-free pancakes for breakfast the next morning. Ron and Claire were great to talk to and took great care of us.

We enjoyed our stay so much we came back through Roanoke on our return trip and stayed two more nights at the Black Lantern Inn. We stayed in the room on the first floor (the Venetian room) since the skyline room was already booked. This room had a wonderful king-size bed, large bathroom and plush towels and bathrobes.

The Inn is not only comfortable for relaxing but also has reliable wifi internet connections to offer guests. Ron set up a table in the dining room as work space for me so I could finish working on coursework due later that day. He also helped us with getting our cue sheets for a bicycle ride we were doing that day. For the next morning, he also made a fantastic eggs benedict breakfast with gluten-free toast.

The Black Lantern is conventiently located and is only a mile from the restaurants in downtown Roanoke.

Ron and Claire have made a wonderful inn and we will definitely go back if we travel to Roanoke again.

Room Tip: Skyline room is huge and offers great work, louging space Venetian room has king-size bed, large ba...
